Myrto Hotel Athens

I payed 55 euros for a double room, since it's located in the centre of Athens (can't find a a more centric location) i find it a very good price for the service you get.

Great location close to the Plaka and the Gardens.

This hotel has a perfect location: Plaka, a few steps from Syntagma Square, a few steps from the main pedestrian streets.

Only 7-10 mins walk distance from/to the Syntagma Square where the airport bus X95 stopped, and very very close to the famous shopping street (Kydatheneon street, turn left out of the hotel door and go pass two lanes only).

So we were delighted to stay at the Myrto for only 39 Euro/night (possibly an internet special) in a safe area only 5 minutes walk from airport bus route.

Dont expect too much in the rooms, just a bathroom, towels, bed.

The rooms were really small, but with a good bed, a decent bathroom, all very clean.

The room was no different; dirty carpet, furniture, walls, bed cover, curtains etc.

The room had a comfortable double bed, however, the top cover was stained and the extra pillows were very dirty with no pillow slips on them.

I have spent 200euro in Chamonix only to find a larger room with the same cracks in the walls; 130 USD in Kesington/London where the bathroom will hardly close if you are in it!

Every morning breakfast was served very politely with a smile, although our health and suchlike were not enquired about (some people may not like this but I am not one for small talk especially in the morning).

We stayed for 3D/2nights at €47/night with breakfast.

The people are nice, the free breakfast is nice and the area is very safe (heart of Plaka).

Opened up breakfast early for us on our last day.

Nice buffet breakfast included which we weren't expecting (yoghurt, honey, jams, breads, cereals, boiled eggs, fruit, coffees and teas, juices).

The staff were very helpful,friendly and welcoming.

The receptionist was welcoming despite the fact we arrived after midnight due to a delayed flight.

However, its proximity to the Plaka and many of Athens' sites makes up for the lack in character and service.

At the end of it all, what made me chuckle (when i was safely on the plane out) was thinking back about the sign above the reception desk, which i've narrated below -.

The lift only goes to the 5th floor so I had to lug both the cases up the last flight.

My wife had to wait for the lift to empty as it wouldn't take two adults and 2 cases.

You have to walk up from the 5th floor to the 6th as the lift doesn't go that far.

The room was not flash but clean and adequate.

When we arrived the room was clean, but only 1 person could take the lift at a time (no surprise for Europe)- Our room was a triple and I think it was about 55 euro per night in February.
