  The atmosphere is alive with race activities including a large racing board in the lobby which gives race updates and lists the order the mushers are in. The room we stayed in was excellent and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

  The service was friendly and the lobby was as described in the previous reviews - very Alaskan and warm. When I checked in, the policy information you are asked to sign clearly states that only the 3rd floor rooms have high-speed internet in the room. I asked for a 3rd floor room, and was accommodated by the desk clerk. Perhaps the reviewer in the prior message should have simply asked for a 3rd floor room! The room was clean, recently updated and quiet. Beds had new linens and the high-speed worked fine for me.

  First, the good: The hotel is near the airport, on Lake Hood (a large sea plane base), which is fun to watch, and it has an "Alaskan" ambiance with an abundance of taxidermy in the lobby including a polar bear and a grizzly bear. There are several excellent options nearby that might not have the taxidermy in the lobby but they have clean, modern facilities, friendly staff and stable internet access.

  One quick point: They do not have in-room internet access. The rooms are large, but they are oddly laid out, short on amenities and showing extensive wear and tear such as peeling wall paper, old, worn fixtures, and dirt. Beds are uncomfortable and linens are cheap and dirty. The heat/air is controlled by noisy individual in-wall units, it is not central and it leaches musty, smelly air into the rooms. The front desk staff is not friendly and get very frustrated when guests complain about the internet (because they hear these complains so frequently.

  The rooms were large with a loveseat, coffee table, desk, entertainment center, 2 sink areas and a refrigerator, but a bit dark ( but OK after turning on a half dozen lights. Weeks before arriving at the hotel I had emailed and asked for a lakeview room and was told that the hotel has no room with a lake view, only a lake view from the restaurant? Heating/cooling still seem to be a big problem. Despite setting the thermostat at the lowest level and the fan at high, no change in the room temperature.

  The lobby is impressive with all the Alaskan taxidermy displayed (although the lobby is dark. The temperature outdoors was around 55-60 degrees, but the room was hot. When we mentioned the "hot rooms" she asked if we "opened the window. There were 5 tiles missing from the bathroom floor and the tub/shower faucet was falling off and almost impossible to adjust the water temperature.

• Lush accommodations in the room located next to the street or surrounding the parking lot.

  You are charged $5 to use the computer upstairs. Meals in the bar are ho-hum (that's where we had to eat after our plane arrived late after being told that two other sections were closed.

  Had a nice large clean room facing the lake.

  Had a nice large clean room facing the lake and was really surprised we got a room there because the iditarod race had started and this hotel was the base of operations.

  Front desk staff was great, very professional and friendly. The rooms are not worth the price they charge, they are clean but everything was run down and worn out I was disappointed, I'd stay again only if they dropped the price to reflect the rooms.

  The location is good, right on Spenard Lake and very close to the airport. Not the kind of service I expect from a Millenium property.

  When we checked in, although there were only three people in line ahead of us, it took 25 minutes to get our room key. I had to dig for our confirmation in order for them to adjust the rate. When I informed them I lived in Illinois and this was not the information that I entered online, they insisted I was incorrect and that must be my business address. I gave them the corrected information, yet when I received my final invoice at check out, this was still not corrected. Furthermore, we used their lobby computer to check in for our flight on Alaska Airlines only to find out the printer was broken after we checked in, thus we couldn't print our boarding passes. If you're expecting a full service facility, check into one of the nicer properties in the area.

  The entire lobby was decorated with “stuffed” animals such as bears and goats, shielded in the huge glass cases on the wall (by the way, the lobby also has skins/furs of various other Alaskan animals on display in glass case as well). The hotel also claimed on their website that they offer complimentary shuttle service to downtown Anchorage.

  The hotel offered 24 hour airport shuttle service, but you have to call in advance. We were told the shuttle will be in the gathering area within 5 minutes, but we still ended up waiting over 15 minutes. It turns out the hotel is only one mile away from the airport.

  I also noticed their airport shuttle van at least twice while traversing at the airport. The check-in clerk was friendly and efficient. The walk to the room was long, but I was sonambulating by then, so I didn't really notice on the way in.

  When checking out in the morning, I did a scan of the considerable taxidermy in the lobby, and took a walk around back to check out the float planes.
