I looked at a few other hotels during my stay, but given the great price and location topped with great staff, I would stay at Metropole again!
It was great value & we were sad to leave this very welcoming hotel.

Santa Margherita is in a wonderful location close to Portofino and the Cinque Terre Villages.
The location is good for Santa Margherita, just a couple of blocks from the train station and a couple of minutes walk to the "heart" of town (our taxi from Genoa airport was pricey, though, around 90euro).
12-15 euros by taxi, wouldn't advise taking a taxi anywhere) the parking situation appeared to be tight, but we didn't have a vehicle.
The room was very traditional but in the most modern of ways-lovely bed linen and towels and turndown service every night.
The room is small and the bed is very firm like all the other hotels we have stayed in, but it had great storage, was clean and modern.
The room was not large but the bed was very large and very comfortable.
ROOM was your basic European hotel room, King (2 twins) bed, desk, small sitting chairs with just enough room to walk around the bed.
Moreover bed was reasonably comfortable and the complimentary breakfast was.
We loved the breakfast on the patio, the lounge chairs practically IN the ocean, the oceanfront restaurant.
Ristroante Oca Bianca is an excellent restaurant but other restaurants in town were lacking in both service and quality.
We only breakfasted each morning as we were having fun checking out the restaurants of the area but breakfast was excellent.
The real treat is the restaurant which serves sumptuous breakfast and great dinners.
Furthermore the dining staff are fantastic, they offer an excellent breakfast.
The hotel gardens were adorable, reception staff did not match up to service staff and the room was also very nice.
Service is exceptional, served by super staff -Restaurant Michele--Bush is the head waiter.
A parking is available and the property also has a park with a swimming pool.
The hotel property is gorgeous -- beautiful garden, lovely terrace, wonderful pool and ocean-side layout area (complete with comfortable chairs, umbrellas, etc).

No wireless or wired Internet, unless you dial up.

The hotel is well maitained, the staff very helpful and friendly, the rooms clean and nice, small as other tourists have described them, but after all you're on vacation and don't spend a lot of time inside, do you?
Staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious, well furnished and clean, and the food was excellent.
The terraces off each room that faced the harbor, the food is invariably fresh and delicious, the private garden means no one else can use - rather than you get privacy.
The dining room is beautiful with crystal chandeliers.
