Mercure Hotel Stuttgart Bad Cannstatt

The huge room included a lounge area, walk-in robe and a separate bed for our daughter.

Being a bit of hotel snob, I booked the next (and only) step up from a standard room – a superior suite at Euro 161.

The room turned out to be a bit of a surprise – as there was a rather large “living room” and a rather small bedroom.

One colleague had to complain and get a new room because her bathroom apparently had not been cleaned were it mattered.

Choice of soft and hard pillow a definite plus, bed was average sized and not too soft.

My search found several rustic-type, local bar/restaurants, a nice pizza/Italian place and directly across the street a Chinese/Thai restaurant.

Our only dining experience at the hotel was limited to breakfast – Euro 15 per person extra.

I did look in the restaurant the first night we arrived – only one table was occupied and I decided to look around the hotel neighborhood for other options.

A number of autographed flags and pennants on the walls of the breakfast area indicate that this hotel must be frequently used by visiting sports teams.

Breakfast buffet was average, some some colleagues getting up later reported the bacon and the cheese and sausage selection looked a bit "sad".

The hotel was clean, modern and staff friendly.

Booking was done via the Internet and there were no issues with the reservation.

As the name implies, a mineral water bathing and spa facility was just up the street, adjacent to a large park.

Parking is available in a garage under the hotel at Euro 10 per night.

It’s not everyday you get to ride the elevator with stars of the German Bundesliega!

The room was clean with lots of natural light.
