We couldn't argue with the excellent location as it was just a 2 minute stroll from Nagoya Hill Plaza, which was just as well because public transport in Batam is a real pain.
Overall atmosphere would be 2 out of 5 because of the inconsistent light colours and taxi is extremely cheap in Batam.
The cab drivers have no qualms about telling a complete pack of lies just to get you into their cab whereupon their entire story (along with the price) changes.
The rooms were rudimentary though reasonably clean but we did bemoan the lack of an in-room safe, so you would need to be prudent in that regard.
Service was generally good, the room was cosy and secure.
The staff were friendly their English was limited and the room was simple.
Great value, the staff were extremely friendly and our bathroom light was broken.
In addition the toilet was big as well and the pool was also rather nice.
Overall atmosphere would be 2 out of 5 because of the inconsistent light colours, service is very good.
Service was generally good and our check in/out was smooth, housekeeping brought extra pillows within 5 mins of my phone call to them.
For those of you who get all misty eyed about 80s Malaysian hotels, here's your chance to relive your days of youth by staying at the Puri Garden.
The toilets are clean as well, breakfast buffet is not too bad.
Hotel Mercure in Batam is a good 4 star property, service provided is excellent and the room is spacious and clean.
