Mercure Angouleme Hotel De France - Angoulême

Stayed one night on a business trip, I really enjoyed the hotel location in the heart of the old town with wonderful walks around the old streets and town walls.

Another plus for this hotel is its location - in the heart of Angouleme AND literally just across the street from the large indoor town market.

Good location and a very pleasant standard "big hotel chain" room.

My impression was that the room needed some refurbishment and a new bed.

Our room was spacious - with a nice bathroom and a wonderful view over the roof tops of Angouleme.

I had specifically requested a quiet room on the back and confirmed this when I checked in, to which I was told I had been given a quiet room, only to discover that my window gave on the busy street in front of the hotel.

Easy on site parking comfortable rooms, very short stay and helpful staff.

The hotel is walking distance to the train (albeit hilly) and is nestled in with several delightful shops and restaurants.

The hotel doesn't have alot of extra frills but serves a very good breakfast.

The building is really nice, an old building of white stones, with stylish reception and restaurant.

Best of all was the very friendly, service-oriented staff who cheerfully helped us with several things during our two day stay- holding packages, making reservations, taking pictures, etc.

The hotel staff is very helpful, competent and friendly -- family like atmosphere.

The hotel car park is convenient as parking there can be a real problem, however they charge eur 8 per day which is a bit expensive for a small town.
