The hotel itself is “quaint”, comfortable rooms with the basics but tired around the edges particularly the shower rooms. Mendocino is lovely, lots of interesting shops and galleries, with super views and walks.

The hotel was let down by the attitude of its staff, while the hotel is a grand old lady, the staff should not act like they are! In particular the woman that registered us was surly and impolite. She was so unhelpful to the people checking in after us it was embarrassing. PS. the hotel may be open 24/7 but it does not offer a 24/7 service.

We especially liked the suite we had this time. The bed although hard to get into was wonderful to sleep in. The flat screen tv was a welcome surprise this time. We like the proximity to restaurants and shopping. We have stayed at the Hotel several times and befoe that we stayed at the Joshua Grindle every year for many years. My husband now prefers to stay where there is a television set. We had a great breakfast every day in the hotel. We were in Mendocino this time with our friends for the concert on Thursday and Friday nights and we lucked out with beautiful weather for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We missed the Guatamalan sale this year. This was our 4th year specifically for the concert. Dena was especially helpful the first day when we were given a two-story unit. We are both over 70 and we make too many trips to the bathroom to have to go up and down a steep set of stairs every time. Our knees protest the stairs also. She was able to move us to another suite that did not have stairs inside. She was also very pleasant and helpful when we rant into her in the hotel. Bottom line is that the Mendocino Hotel is now our go to place in Mendocino. Thank you for a great stay!

My husband and I loved the original details the hotel has maintained. Lovely gardens on site and across the street are cared for by the hotel.

The way it has been decorated and maintained it's original design. It's beautiful. The food was excellent and everyone was very nice. It was very welcoming. I would definately stay again.

We liked the location and the ambience. The room was small and bathroom in a previous closet. We felt the room overpriced and expect we were paying for the location and ambience.

Traveled with my best friend. We loved the location and the history of the hotel. Charming & historical~ We had a lovely room with an awesome view. The french onion soup was phenomenal on a chilly night. Our mendocino coffee was perfect. The staff were attentive. We couldn't have had a more perfect view/location. Bathrobes were included with the room, but one of them had an "issue". Highly recommend that you get a room with your own bath. But if you get a room on the front the view is worth forgoing your own bath. Plus there is an inroom basin. If there isn't a table available order at the bar & take your food to the deck : ) Staff will accomodate you : )

Disappointed that reservations are needed for the tables. You would think as a guest you would get preference.

Location and quality restaurant. Staff assistance to change to a room with a private bath.

Slightly soft mattress, and noise outside on Friday evening

I loved the main all ancient style, and mainly this is really a beautiful place! Also the location is nice, just front the ocean.

The bedroom was really small compare to the price payed. We didn't have the breakfast included.

Quaint, basically good service. Very nice atmosphere in this period hotel

About 50% of the rooms have shared bathrooms, probably because of need to avoid changing style of hotel. This would not be to everyone's taste, but it is perfectly doable without any loss of a nice sense of period luxury

        Classic old hotel.

Misleading about pet-friendly. Room was not clean. Shower barely worked. Small room. Could not access the balcony. Wanted us to pay after we had already paid. No TV.

I loved the quaint suite and the antique furniture. Bed was super comfortable and loved the fireplace.

        It was pretty expensive.

The location is fantastic, looking out over the Mendocino headlands. The hotel has a very homey, very local and welcoming feeling. We loved being able to read, relax and dine right downstairs in the bar / lobby. The staff said to "treat it as your living room" and we did! We loved the location, being right in town. We truly enjoyed our stay!

The room was pretty small -- with two suitcases, it was hard to move around! And the bed is small (a full?) with a less than comfortable mattress.
