Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge - Machupicchu

Amazing location at a premium price and friendly ambiance of this fantastically located hotel.

The only this hotel has going for it is its location.

The hotel does have a great location, you are right near the entrance to the site, all you have to do is walk out the door and you are at the ticket gate.

However, the hotel send out their own bus o fetch us at the train station.

Staying here, you can get out to the ruins and the hikes (remember Wayan Picchu hike limits the number of people allowed per day) BEFORE all the buses arrive and stay until AFTER the last bus departs.

We had a standard room in the main building, which although small, was very attractively decorated (king bed, small table and chairs, TV, minibar, bathroom (shower only).

The rooms are small but perfectly formed; comfy beds; table and chairs, tons of hot water; room safe - and the food!

It is situated directly above the hotel kitchen and the kitchen exhaust fan duct runs up the same wall as the bed headboard and discharges directly over the room It literally vibrated the room and sounded like a helicopter going over.

The only disappointment is that I don't think there are any rooms with bathtubs instead of showers which I would have preferred but apart from that the room was well appointed and very comfortable.

Not much to do at night, so take advantage of their movie collection (also included in the price of the room) and pop one into your VCR and snuggle down to bed.

We were told that lunch, dinner, breakfast and all drinks including alcohol and the min bar were free.

ONE CAVEAT: FOR SOME REASON THEY ALLOW SMOKING IN THE BAR, WHICH IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RESTAURANT, SO IF YOU ARE NOT LUCKY AND PEOPLE ARE SOMOKING YOUR MEAL WILL BE RUINED.

The restaurants were pretty, particularly the a la carte one reserved for guests only (glass sunspace, fireplace, cozy chairs in the bar), and the food was great.

The waiter service restaurant food was good and so was the bar service.

The restaurant and bar has a relaxed feel and there is a log fire which is very welcoming.

Staff was excellent as well as the service.

The location at the entrance is great, the hotel staff are wonderful and the service in the restaurant is very friendly.

Helpful staff, this hotel is excellent value and service to be very good.

The front desk staff is especially warm and helpful, the selection of alcoholic drinks is extensive and impressive.

The lobby is also similarly unimpressive.

I decided to stay here because I thought that if there was low cloud/rain at Macchu Picchu I could stay in the hotel in comfort while I waited for it to lift.

I was able to sit out the rain in comfort in the hotel lobby while enjoying copious cups of coca tea etc.

The rooms are clean and pillows are very comfortable.

Alye ghso the room was clean, gilberto at the restaurant was genuinly kind and dinner at Tampu that night was delicious.

The hotel did seem clean and the room was small, but functional.

The room was very nice, clean, and the restaurant was great!

We hiked up to Wayna Picchu on the second morning, it was so nice to come back to the room and clean up for lunch before heading out again.
