Macdonald Swan Hotel Grasmere

A great location you are interested in walking as there are walks directly from the door and grasmere is a fantastic place.

In terms of location, the hotel is very well positioned right on the entrance to grasmere village.

The location was great as was close enough to Grasmere to be able to walk to shops, this hotel was nice enough and the staff were very friendly.

The hotel is beside a main road which is very handy to take the bus which is right opposite the hotel.

Be careful if you are not taking a car because although the busses are frequent week days (roughly every 20 minutes), you can wait up to 2 hours in the week end, so read the bus timetable carefully.

Chose one of the feature rooms which had a half poster bed.

Our room was decidedly 'tired', but the good things included the quality of the bath sheet, the comfortable beds,the hotel situation, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the reception staff.

Hotel itself was lovely, the staff were very friendly and the bed was too big for the size of the room.

I was on a single room rate and the room and single bed were actually quite small.

The upholstery in the room was stained and soiled, the bed was too big for the size of the room and the general comfort level in the room was probably not value for money given that the room rate was £190 per night!

In restaurant of this price you would expect a bit more)though it is a charming breakfast / dinner room and the bar / lounge extremely relaxing.

The communal areas of the hotel (bar, restaurant, reception) are very welcoming and in good order, however, I feel the rooms are past their best and could do with some investment.

The main reception/bar/restaurant area has been done and now looks like the standard we would expect from a Macdonalds hotel.

The food was excellent, breakfast too many options!

The best room that we have ever stayed in and food is also great from the cooked breakfast.

The warm friendly atmosphere from the staff and service was excellent.

The location is great, the hotel restaurant is fine and the staff on the front desk excellent.

The breakfast very good but the service was not very well organised and we had to remind the staff that we hadn't been served.

Main Hotel very nice well maintained, all staff were very pleasant particularly the 2 women on reception and the room itself was clean.

We liked the atmosphere, staff excellent and the cheery young receptionist were great.

It is about a 5 minute walk into the village, which would be ideal in the summer months as parking could be a problem in the village.

The hotel had a private garden (that was kind of a secret garden) that not many people knew about - but it was lovely!

Also our room was very clean, drink prices were very high.

Our room was clean and restaurant menu was impressive.

From entering we found all the staff friendly and courteous, The room was not large but clean & comfortable.
