The rooms are not cheap and there is not much scope for saving money by eating outside the hotel - there are not many cheap dining options close by.
Understand up front that this hotel is expensive and that you will spend a considerable amount of money to stay here.
Ultimately, it's worth the extra money to stay someplace nice rather than have awful memories of horrible hotels that will haunt you for years.
I spend many hours researching the hotel, not only for value but for just the right atmosphere and service.
About a ten minute drive to the village of La Jolla, set in a beautiful location with the ocean in the distance, next to the Torrey Pines Golf Course and Torrey Pines Nature Preserve.
Its relatively small property size gives a great feeling of intimacy and a 'special' location.
It is a fabulous hotel offering superb service and a location that offers great golf, nature walks and Ocean access.
She did call a taxi for us and while we were waiting outside the valet parking attendant asked if we were waiting for the town car.
It has an 'underground' feeling to it, so, again, if you like your California sunshine, then this spa is not going to do it for you.
The room was large, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was very nice.
The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the bathroom is very large, with a wonderful shower and excellent bath amenities.
The rooms are very nice, comfy bed, nice furniture and balcony/patio.
Monday, we ordered breakfast from room service on the bed/breakfast deal.
The bathrooms were fabulous, however -- Four Seasons style bathroom with large soaking tub and lovely products.
We had three breakfasts brought to our room, we ate one in the upscale restaurant, and enjoyed three in the grill adjacent to the golf course.
They have two restaurants, AR Valentin, the formal restaurant is nice enough but had limited options for dinner, surprisingly a much more interesting lunch menu.
We had breakfast in our room in the morning, which was wonderful, and in on the patio by the bar, which was interesting.
Main restaurant was tremendous for breakfast and dinner.
Valentien restaurant for breakfast is very pleasant.
The service, from check-in, to concierge, to poolside staff, were of the highest quality and responded to even the most unusual of requests with great enthusiasm.
Staff at front door, front desk, concierge station and restaurants were wonderful.
All areas of service are polished but friendly, perhaps a bit of attitude at the front desk, but that speck is offset by the ocean of overall great service.
The concierge's recommendations were perfect, spa staff unobtrusive.
I was hoping for a 'day spa' experience and was dispointed to learn that there was no indoor jacuzzi.
A few other words about the place: while I didn't experience the spa first-hand, my wife said the service was good, but the facility was too small and lacked a Jacuzzi tub.
The pool outside is lovely, but it a far walk from the spa and it was a very cold day).
The rooms are spotless, the architecture priceless, and the grounds unmatched.
We would leave our room for breakfast ceom back a few hours later and they would not have come and clean the room.
Rooms are very comfortable, spacious and clean, although our balcony seemed to be in the shade for most of the day.

The next day while we were in the shower housekeeping knocked on the door and requested to clean the room.

The room was large and comfortable.

Service was excellent and also friendly, especially Elisa , the Concierge, who was courteous and highly efficient at facilitating our every request. Rooms are very comfortable, spacious and clean, although our balcony seemed to be in the shade for most of the day. Lots of excellent amenities here in beautiful surroundings - don't forget to try the hotel's guided tour of the Torrey Pines Reserve, which is on the dorstep. Food in both restaurants was excellent and so was the service.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a beautiful hotel with an outstanding service. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the bathroom is very large, with a wonderful shower and excellent bath amenities. The staff there is very friendly and helpful, like you expect in a 5 star hotel.

The accommodations were very comfortable, but certainly not outstanding. We had an excellent dinner at the Valetin restaurant that evening. One morning we planned to have a nice breakfast on the balcony of our room. They only make the bed and clean the bathroom.

Everything was great, the room (loved the courtyard view, felt like I was in the mountains, the food (had room service for breakfast and dinner), the service was perfect.

Not only is it professional, but most of the staff are very friendly and really go out of their way to welcome you and assure you have a nice time. The pool was nice and warm, despite the chilly weather. There are lots of comfortable lounge chairs and a jacuzzi with a terrific view. The spa, though quite expensive, is beautiful with a white and black motif and loads of tile and marble. We had dinner at their fine dining restaurant one night. The rooms were large with great bedding--down pillows, comforters, and nice linens.

I highly recommend this resort for anyone who is searching for comfort and exceptional beauty with outstanding service.

It was great to find a resort that truly prides itself on the friendliness of their staff. The resort is amazing in it s architecture, with the large beams and stunning fireplace in the lobby, It is now the place we will call home, when visiting La Jolla. We were happy to pay the $425 and the room was worth every penny to us. We especially enjoyed the library & billiards room just down the hall for the kids.

The staff was exceedingly friendly and professional. The food in both restaurants was very fine. Fantastic Treatment, wonderful place to stay.
