This hotel seemed to have good reviews and reasonable prices.
Let me make clear that I would return to the Lafayette because of its offerings for the price, but there are a lot of problems that the management would do well to resolve in order to run a more successful hotel.
Unfortunately the hotel is not and New Orleans has much better to offer for the money.
Charged a fee for safe and telephone, supposedly for the state my fellow conventioneers did not seem to have this charge at their hotel.
The location is great: a short ride from the french quarter, but with freeway access nearby.
The location is great and the hotel is very nice.
Very nice motel just 5 blocks from Canal, location was awesome and the Lafayette Hotel was one of the best accomodations I have ever experienced.
Get the Vistapass at the airport from the bank, and you can ride buses and streetcars all day into the wee hours of the morning for only $5 a day.
Though the hotels in the French Quarter looked nice I was glad we didn't stay in the French Quarter - the noise and perceived danger would have been distracting - that short walk and/or cab ride to the Lafayette solved that problem.
That classic room in an attractive 'boutique' hotel, good bed, graceful furniture and quiet atmosphere (no sound from the cheerful sports bar below) was enormously pleasing.
The nicely furnished rooms are very spacious, very clean and have a very comfortable bed.
I arrived relatively late in the evening to a nonsmoking room that reeked of cigarette smoke, had a huge - and very new - stain on the carpet and a stained and soiled bed spread.

It is a nice hotel, with decent size rooms, and a great bed, but the service left something to be desired.
Their restaurant/bar and coffee shop had not yet reopened.
There's a good bakery across the street for breakfast and a fine, fine restaurant called Herbsaint half a block away.
The hotel was walking distance to some great restaurants and a wonderful breakfast spot.

There is a wonderful bar on one side of the lobby and a fabulous restaurant on the other and the park.
Friendly staff and good maid service; the only negative was that the restaurant was out of service.

Please beaware that the hotel charges for parking, safe use (even if you don't use it) and phone usage (again, even if you don't use it).
There isn't any common or public area (pool, etc.
The hotel was extremely quiet and we never had to wait for the elevator during the entire stay.

Wireless Internet access is freely available, though not incredibly reliable.
The staff are always pleasant, the rooms are very clean and comfortable.
The staff was great, the bathroom was decent and clean.
Not only were the rooms spacious, clean and well appointed but the staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable.
