  Having said that it was quiet which is more than can be said for its sister property "Emu Walk" at Uluru. A highlight was the BBQ and bar which provided great food at a reasonable price and free entertainment.

  Considering the price the room was minimalist and shabby. Nobody seem to care much about the fact that it was broken and it wasn't until 3 phone calls and a personal visit to the manager that anything was done.

  Room was clean, comfortable, although as we had 3 adults in one room somewhat cramped.

  We were staying between Christmas and New Year and this is the low season this meant that service in the 'resort' (i. Also, I left some clothing behind and went to another hotel in this chain in Alice Springs (all part of a tour) and they did not find the items for following 48 hours - they talked about a problem with housekeeping not being on shift and so on - thankfully not something valueable - they agreed to send on to me in Syndey - this took over 10 days to arrive - so not sure what they did with this in interim!

  If you do nothing else ensure that you book, or be certain that you upgrade your booking to, a “deluxe room with spa”. These have a spa tub off the bedroom with a huge picture window overlooking the bush. Yes, you are exposed to the passing dingoes seeing you in your full glory – but it is a magical experience to be pampered in your tub as you watch the desert go by. Food was good and wholesome without being exciting. An early start will mean that you miss the crowds – and have the chance to appreciate one of God’s great natural wonders in peace and quiet before the major heat of the day. For those of you with a good level of fitness (it’s not an easy walk), don’t hesitate – just do it, and enjoy!

  It takes 3+ hours to complete the rim walk, including the essential side trip to visit the “Garden of Eden”.

  It was quite nice actually but one has to question the wisdom of using water in this way in the desert. Since there is no other choice of hotel they have a monopoly really and so the value was not great.

  The hotel has a variety of rooms and we chose a spa room which had a bath spa overlooking the desert rocks.

  Most people only stay there a night or two anyway and you just need a clean place to get a bath and some sleep. The one restaurant, George Gill's bar, was ok, we enjoyed the family oriented show.

  We had originally boked a standard room, but decided to treat ourselves and upgrade to a spa suite when we arrived. We had a fantastic spa bath with panoramic window overlooking the Outback. The room was large and clean as was the bathroom - we failed to spot any of the dirty linen that others complained of.

  The resort run by Voyagers (an organisation which runs many resorts) basically provides all services at Kings Canyon badly. For God's sake don't walk around the grounds when the service van is being driven around. Staff drive it as if they are on the derestricted freeways. For Dinner you can eat at the BBQ Barn which we have to say was the best part of the resort, if you can endure the husband and wife entertainers who on a busy night are quite entertaining but on a quiet night seem to reflect the overall malaise of the resort.

  They charge exorbitant rates for very poorly maintained hotel rooms that for the 5 star price are barely 2 star maintained. From crusty stains on blankets, loose light fittings, dirty poorly maintained bathrooms, filthy outdoor furniture, poorly maintained grounds, little staff attentiveness, etc this resort is a blight on Australian hospitality. We don't believe we have stayed in a worse room in 40 yrs of travel all over the world and we are embarassed that overseas guests have to put up with this.

  We stayed there for one night but I would't stay there again - especially at the "motel rooms" next to the campground. And then it's not only cold in your room but also very loud. There is no bathroom in your room as well - you have to use the one from the campground.

  The standard room (booked via the internet was A$ 142) had just been renovated and I found it pleasant, clean and slept well in the bed. Not all standard rooms have (I believe) undergone renovations as yet. The restaurant with breakfast buffet had a very pleasant seating arrangement, helpful and friendly staff and good coffee. We almost felt as if it was part of the landscape and we enjoyed the quiet location.

  We booked a "deluxe room" through the resort website for $190 a night which is only about $50 more expensive than a standard room but has an in room spa which allows great views of the night sky. Our Deluxe Room was very clean, modern, with all basic facilities available which one would expect in a modern 4 star hotel. Large bed and bathroom and the spa was good size and provided great viewing of the sky after dark.

  When we arrived we were welcomed and provided with an area map and pointed out the local restaurants (which there are only 2) however although we were told that both restaurants were open, on walking to it discovered that Carmichaels restaurant was closed on the night we visited.
