    No, this is not a top of the scale hotel but if you booked for the same low price that I did then you should not expect that.

    I guarantee by the time you factor in the troublingly overpriced amenities, hidden hotel taxes, and egregious price hikes, you'll be able to find a vacation in one of these lovely countries at the same price, or less.

    Not only did we have money problems at the hotel (bartenders trying to charge us more than the price and tip) we had a lot of problems with the taxis and the excursions such as snorkeling, and the local people in general.

    For good value for your money at a decent property, the hotel is nice.

    The location is far enough away from the beach to where it is a hassle to get a taxi every time.

    Inconvenient location -- no restaurants are close by, the beach is only accessible by either the hotel shuttle or taxi.

    The location isn't great (inland), but the shuttle and the good room rate made up for it.

    Taxis were necessary at night, and the taxi drivers were very informative about the island.

    The taxi from airport to hotel was cheap at $7.

    You have only the basic bed, and bathroom.

    This hotel was not all that great it didn't have a refrigerator which made keeping things cold out of the question, the single bed rooms were small it only had a full size bed, double bed rooms were much bigger.

    Bed, TV (with directv), shower, the very basics.

    The room was clean, spacious, and had a coffee maker, color cable tv, phone,.

    Our room apparently was one of the hotel worker's daily home- we were told - in an explaination that in addition to having some damage to the bathroom door (a fist through it, it looked like), our room did not have a coffeemaker.

    The new on site restaurant at the Island Palm was decent, and we ate breakfast twice and had one dinner there (the steak dinner was very good), and prices were better than most island destinations (we have been to Puerto Rico, Barbados, St.

    There is no restaurant nearby and there is no where on the property to eat breakfast.

    The beach has a great bar and restaurant, and there are changing rooms.

    Oh yes, if you are looking for cheaper breakfast prices, just go to Port Lucaya and find a restaurant there.

    I did not eat at the restaurant, but I recommend bringing snacks and drinks to the bahamas because food is very expensive there.

    Other than the poor room service, the front desk staff was nice.

    Front desk staff were helpful in answering questions on how to get around etc.

    The staff was extremely friendly-there was phenomenal service- and the shuttle to the beach was very convenient.

    Some of the staff were fairly decent but over all the service s----!

    Also the Island Seas resort (where they take you on the shuttle to) had a beautiful pool and beach- and was perfect to go to for the day.

    There was a free shuttle to the beach (because the hotel is no where near a beach and the pool is a puddle) but it ran at weird times and the latest you could stay at the beach was 5:30.

    We were invited to enjoy the pool and bar while we waited for the free shuttle to take us to the port to board the ship.

    Our room was clean and everyone we ran into was very polite to us.

    The rooms were large, very clean, and the pool was nice.

    The staff were freindly and the rooms were clean.

      The comfort suites, the discovery sun, and the island palm (grand Bahama island) wonderful experience! Across from the comfort suites is a restaurant called the pollo something chicken on the grill. It's a fast food Carribean place, very good food. Also, just across from the Wendy's (just down from the island palm) a Bahamian restaurant called Geneva's very good food!

      We travel a fair bit, and we typically stay at less expensive properties, so that we can enjoy excursions with the savings (and how much time do you plan to spend in your room? When we checked in, the hotel staff was being berated by two couples who were insisting that they were told that they were staying at a luxury hotel with an oceanfront room balcony. Get Real - a room like that would be well over $300 a night, and it isn't the hotel's fault if people don't do their homework. The other thing that we heard people complain about was the "resort tax" which is paid everywhere; we knew about it before we traveled, so no problem, but again some people did not have proper information, and they took it out on the hotel staff. The staff was very nice, especially considering what they faced from those people at check in. The staff does do things at an "island pace" (like anywhere elsein the islands), but to us that was part of the vacation - relax and have a rum punch.

      We did take a taxi at night, but the fares are just like any city in the US (actually, a little cheaper).

      Ask the other people on the bus and they will be more than happy to talk.

      Upon arrival we were immediately ushered through the check-in lobby into the resturant for complementary drinks and snacks. The drinks were bathroom Dixie cups of fruit punch and styrofoam cereal bowls of pretzels. After this, we were allowed to go back to the lobby to check in. No elevators so pack light or pay the price. They took our dirty towels, but failed to replace them.

      The rooms were inexpensive (we came over on the Discovery Cruise Lines) and they were VERY clean. The staff was extremely friendly-there was phenomenal service- and the shuttle to the beach was very convenient. I have traveled all around the world and was so impressed with how friendly the staff and everyone on the island was. Also the Island Seas resort (where they take you on the shuttle to) had a beautiful pool and beach- and was perfect to go to for the day. It is clean, convenient and has a friendly staff.

      After reading a lot of the reviews on the web I became nervous that the hotel was dirty, old, had a rude staff, and was out of the way from everything- this was not the case at all.

      Everyone at this resort is so friendly and will help you with anything. By the way the food is pretty good compared to what I expected from everyone's reviews. The pool and landscaping is very beautiful and the rooms are clean and spacious.

      The water pressure was not as pressurized as one is used to but it is adequate. We flew into FPO and got a cab ride to the hotel. Then we were told to go to the lobby where we met one of our lovely front desk personalities, LeDawn. Oh yes, the next day when we went to the hotel bar, the cashier lady gave my bf the "new drink menu" which had set prices for drinks on them.

      The grounds are well kept and our room was a bit outdated but nothing horribly wrong with it. Found a bus to take back to the hotel and ended up finding out where the hot spot to be was, which is Port Lucaya. As for the hotel, my bf did call the front desk 3 days in a row asking for a coffee maker and did go down and talk to LeDawn about getting one and she just basically looked at him like he was nuts. The pool was a bit cool for us so we didn't swim in that or in the ocean.

      The property isn't fancy, but it is clean and well maintained, and the staff is wonderful. These same people would choke at paying $350 a night for an upscale hotel room in Nassau or St.

      We got to play golf, the water is warm for snorkelling, and it isn't crowded!

      It isn't a full service luxury resort, but rather a mid range hotel. The rooms are large, clean, and the air conditioning is very good. The pool bar is great, and the pool is nice. We had people with us who knew about the free shuttle to the casino and beach, and the public bus system ($1. 50pp), so we only took a cab a few times at night.

      I say this because some people checking in seemed to expect a five star resort, and they were rude to the staff (it sounds like one or two of them also put nasty reviews here - hey it isn't the staff's fault!

      The room and grounds were very clean, the pool was nice, the staff was good, and food prices were OK. Otherwise during the day we used the public bus to get around (cheap and fun! If you want a clean room and pleasnt staff, then this what you want. We are out doing things, not sitting in our room, so the Island palm was great.

      The last time I stayed at the Westin; the westin was pretty, but the staff was rude, and everything was overpriced. We used the hotel shuttle twice to go to the beach and casino.

      The pool at the Island Palm is great, and they have a nice pool bar. The activities desk booked our tee times and arranged a cab for us; we had a great time. Overall, prices are like any resort area, including food and taxis (in fact, the cabs were cheaper in the Bahamas than most US cities), and the golf was cheaper than some equivalent courses in the US.
