Editorial review:

Intercontinental The Barclay New York is a large business oriented luxury hotel with 600 sleeping rooms in the tradition of New York’s grand hotels. The location is also great for tourists and it is conveniently located within a short walk of Grand Central Station. The sleeping rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The lobby is visually stunning and expansive. The hotel restaurant cuisine is not spectacular but there are more than enough great eating spots in the immediate area to keep you well fed for quite a while.

The concierge was helpful and the hotel was very close to heart of NYC. The bed was very comfortable.

The checkin clerk was offhand to the point of being rude. Parking (valet) was astronomical at $60 per day plus taxes. Drinks in the bar were also hugely overinflated, but maybe this is standard for NYC hotels.

              Room sizes good. Staff friendly.

Very tired decor throughout the hotel. Noise from street level. Didnt think it was an intercontinental hotel - probably why I was a little disappointed.

Very nice staff at this hotel. Very courteous and helpful with all inquiries, checking in, etc. I received exactly the room location that I had requested when booking. Extremely comfortable bed and the room size was excellent. Beautiful lobby and bar area. I recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

The carpet in my room was pretty worn so looked dirty even though it probably was clean. It would have helped if the bellman delivering my luggage had pointed out a few features of the room, how to adjust the alarm clock, where the coffee maker was hidden, etc. I had real trouble trying to adjust the clock time as it wasn't on the correct time when I arrived. It took me quite a while to realize that there was a coffee maker in my room. Nice that it was so discreet, but I almost missed it! These are very minor points compared to the over all positives of my stay.

The Intercontinental Barclay is a lovely hotel & is very well situated for a city break to New York - not too far from anywhere but not right in the middle of all the buzz. Our room was very comfortable, clean & quiet....... which in NY is an absolute blessing!

We were disappointed to learn that there wasn't free internet access & at $7.95 for 15 minutes access, it's fairly expensive even for just a short burst. I only wanted to update my Facebook but before I knew it I was into my 2nd 15 minute slot & had to pay about £10 for the pleasure. From the money the hotel is raking in (eg. $40 for 2 drinks at the bar!), I don't think free internet & monitor access is unreasonable. I've never had to pay for it in any other hotel I've ever stayed in.

Service staff had an, "I want you to be pleased," attitude and they lived up to their attitude.

The business center is too expensive. Most business people will want easy and economical, preferably free, access to computers and internet. This is a minimal amenity for business travelers.

The location was excellent and the beds were comfortable.

We had to change rooms twice within three days. The first was due to a large gap at the base of the door which allowed a lot of noise in. They upgraded us from a Queen to King room, but tv in the second room stopped working and they couldn't replace it. Wifi could only be accessed in the lobby but had poor reception. The bathrooms were tiny, especially for a King room. Coffee facilities were limited.

The location of the hotel was great, we could walk to almost all major attractions. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The staff were helpful allowing us to have a late check-out on the day we left & overall we had a lovely saty at The Barclay. I would defiitely stay there again.

It can be quite noisy in the rooms if you are in one that faces the road - the constant beeping of taxis & whistling by the hotel staff to flag down a taxi can get a bit much at times

Location was good for walking but, I was very dissappointed at how dirty smelling the lobby was.

I stayed in NYC before and after a trip to the Galapagos. On the way down I stayed at a Hilton and on th way back I spent a little extra to end the holiday on a high note and chose the Intercontinental. In Asia Intercon hotels are luxurious and wonderful. The Intercon Barclay was a big dissappointment. The smell in the lobby for all 3 days was sour and foul. It reminded me of a gym locker. I hated walking through the lobby and sometimes you could smell it on the stairs before you even entered the building. Considering I paid about 100 dollars more a night then the Hilton, which was only three streets away, the room was very small and cramped. The bathroom was also very small, dirty, and the grout in the tile had not been cleaned well
