Hotel II Castillas Avila - Ávila

Good location not far from historical center and there is a large shopping mall nearby.

The location is great (really good) and there is a large breakfast.

Where the hotel really scores is its location.

I would recommend taking the Metro (underground) from the airport to the hotel.

Take the metro from the airport approx 30 mins (2 changes) costs two euros per person to Station Callao on the Grand Via, the hotel is a two minute walk to Calle de Abada where the hotel is located near to the El Cortes Ingles Parking bay.

We booked a double room, and were given a corner room with (a) a view, (b) a king-size bed, and (c) an enormous bathroom with plenty of toiletry samples.

We were given new bed clothes and bath towels every day.

I didn't even know 3-star hotels in Europe had rooms with bathtubs in the bathrooms.

The bed was on the hard side, but I think most hotel beds in the 2- to 3-star range in Europe are like that.

There is a glass door that extends only halfway down the length of the bath tub which could mean a very wet bathroom floor after someone having a shower.

The only downside was the bar/restaurant which allowed smoking and made it unpleasant for non-smokers.

Good looking bar/restaurant attached to the hotel although we never tried it.

The breakfast was a buffet breakfast with plenty of everything incuding hot food such as scrambled eggs and bacon.

Forget about the previous comments regarding the lack of food at breakfast.

We enjoyed the breakfast food both mornings as they supply both hot and cold food and is great for setting you up for a day touring around the city of Madrid.

The staff at the reception was also very friendly and made the stay very pleasant.

Front desk staff were courteous and helpful if not bubbling over and we had no problems.

The staff on the reception was very polite, friendly and helpful.

However the staff was VERY unhelpful and the service fair.

The staff was friendly enough, but not what I could call overly warm and gracious.

One small complaint is that the lobby lights are dimmed to semi-darkness at night.

There is no on-site parking, but a for-fee parking garage is located near the hotel.

We were given a nice corner room which was very spacious, new and clean.

The bathroom was well fitted with clean marble, a great power shower and his 'n' her sinks!

The rooms are small but very clean and well kept.

The room was very clean with all of the necessary amenities.

The hotel room where we stayed was comfortable and spotless and I liked the novelty of the his and her washbasins.
