Editorial review:

De Las Letras Hotel dates back to 1917 when it was built and the public areas have retained original detailing like mosaic tiles. Rooftop bars are very popular in Madrid and this hotel was the first to have a rooftop bar. Needless to say, the rooftop bar is great, but the entire hotel is excellent, with individually styled rooms that have writer’s quotes written on the walls.

Verified Reviews:

  • Spa was a delight - Excellent steam room - Sauna and hot pool - Not a place to take the kids
  • Near to metro, shops, many restuarants - Jacuzzi on the balcony - Morning buffet is excellent
  • Good hotel - Rooms are very clean - Bed is very large - No tea/coffee making facilities
  • Located directly on gran via - Modern design - Staff was very friendly - Recommend it to all
  • Location is very convenient - Bathroom is large - Great value for money - Would stay there again

The terrace, the bar, the location, the size of the room

Twin bedroom instead of a Kingsize one. The breakfast is not very good and is quite expensive. I recommend to take it outside.

The hotel is in a beautiful historic building, but the rooms are entirely modern. I loved the brightly colored walls, the hard wood floors and most of all the comfortable bed and bedding. The location is great.

I chose the hotel in part because of its terrace, but when I arrived, I was told that it was closed for renovation. That information should have been posted.

The room was very clean and we loved the bar (excellent music!) where we had drinks every night.

Lack of double-glass windows! We got a superior room on the 2nd floor, overlooking the back alley, nevertheless there was still too much noise during the night especially due to ambulances and police cars.

Everything was awesome! The hotel is located in a wonderful area of the city of Madrid, right between the areas for shopping and cultural/entertainment tourisme (museums, parks and historic downtown), at walking distance. The employees were very friendly and the facilities were modern and, at the same time, historical. Excellent experience!

The location really couldn't be much better, the hotel is very clean and it's a nice looking building surrounded by several others that are equally nice :) would definitely use this hotel again and recommend to others

Staff were, as ever, fantastic - pleasant and helpful. Love the hotel as the location is great - very central and the rooms are nicely designed with some strong colours. Second time I have stayed here and I will be back there again in a few weeks. I use this hotel for both business and leisure stays whenever I am in Madrid.

We stayed at De Las Letras for three nights in June, 2011. Although the hotel was undergoing major rennovations we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Staff was extraordinarily helpful and cordial; room was one of the best we've visited in Europe (and we go there often). Large, quiet, clean and well appointed and the price point is perfect. Very well located--can walk to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor in 15 minutes. I would rate the restaurant as fair to good (had only one meal); the buffet breakfast was elaborate but a bit expensive for our tastes. We ate breakfast at bar which offers a very nice continental breakfast for 5 Euros. (Starbucks fans will find one within 150 yards) If we return to Madrid we definitely would stay there again.

The room was a spacious on the corner of the building, giving a a view of the Gran Via. The linen was a crisp white and the housekeeping standard good. Even though the hotel was undergoing some refitting in the lobby area the disturbance was kept to an absolute minimum. The concierge who checked us out was very good and made up for some of the difficiences mentioned below.

The bathroom seemed to have had disabled persons toilet supports added as an after-thought, making use of the toilet inconvenient. This was quite strange because the large bath had no such supports and was difficult for even a normal person to get in and out of. Apart from one of the bar staff, the general attitude of the waiters was 'take it, or leave it'. Each of the two nights we were there we wanted to take a drink at the pretty roof top bar, but each time they were so off-hand and unhelpful we had to resort to other places. On reflection, I think it is a place geared to younger people, as they seemed to have no problem in getting attention. No coffee or tea facilities, but well- stocked mini-bar.

Stylish, spacious and comfortable hotel. Loved the orange room 301 and the funky rooftop bar. The hotel is in the middle of where its at and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

All as mentioned, at Q1, I have asked specific direction and floor while booking and it was fully fulfiled.Location is great!!

I would sugest add self made coffe set (water heater, sugar, tee)

The customer service and the staff were appalling, they were rude, unhelpful and generally not interested in the guests, it was like we were an inconvenience instead of the customer. I would not recommend this hotel.
