  After reading various reviews, and as this was our last couple of nights in Nepal, we decided to book a Regency club room on the 6th floor. The room was tastefully decorated, massive in size and came with a great bathroom - also massive and nicely decorated. A working, easily operated safe in the room was also welcome. The view of nearby Bodhnath stupa was fantastic, and among the best hotel room views I've enjoyed. Location to the airport was excellent and taxis into town were inexpensive Service was friendly and prompt, though I got a greater sense of tip expectation than elsewhere in Kathmandu. The 6th floor manager was also very kind in letting us check out later than normal, which made a great difference to our final day in Nepal - much appreciated.

  There would be hours where the water would be cool or lukewarm at best, so I never did get to use that beautiful bathtub.

  Firstly, despite having booked a non-smoking room, it was impossible to obtain one. First the staff told me they did not have non-smoking rooms in the hotel (right, I really believed that), and then they told me people smoke in all the non-smoking rooms. Despite insisting and moving rooms, I still ended up in a room that reeked of cigarettes. The hotel room had a beautiful bath - but ran out of hot water daily! The lighting was horrible - couldn't see to read at night, and the staff treated me like I was insane when I asked for an additional lamp or a higher wattage bulb. They rent out the pool area for parties, so if you're there on the night of a party, you'll be treated to extremely loud music (so loud it's still blaring with windows closed) till the wee hours. The room itself was probably originally quite nice - but with a very stained carpet and patches of plaster on the walls it wasn't that pleasant.

  Although it is about a 30 minute ride into central Kathmandu, that's not likely to be the only place you'll be visiting, so the location is really not inconvenient. My room was a stupa view, on the Gold Passport (fifth) floor. The room itself was adequate - the wood floor was quite scruffy and could use a good washing or even refinishing. The bathroom was excellent: large, new and spacious. The food at the hotel cafe is reasonably priced (for a Hyatt) and very, very good.

  The grounds are secluded, near the airport, but with a view of the city of Kathmandu and the largest chorten in the region. There is a nice jogging track that wends around gardens and fountains and a beautiful large swimming pool at its center. The lobby promotes serenity as do the rooms. Cleanliness is next to godliness here and the beds extremely comfortable. Also, the food presentation is outstanding -- and, a lot of good fruits and vegetables for munching.

  For a Nepal first timer this was a very soft option, safe, no beasties (apart from the resident monkeys), immaculatly clean and a very high staff - resident ratio. My Club room overlooked the Swaybanuth Stupa which is magnificent with the high mountains towards Everest behind it with other views across Kathmandu with the Anapurna range in the background from the other rooms. The room was large with a very comfortable queen size bed and a splendid bathroom with large shower. I didn't use the regular restaurant as I was inviited to a special event for the Elephant Polo in one of the function rooms. The extensive grounds, gardens and pool were very well kept and patroled by what appeared to be ex-Gurkhas who gave guests a fine attention and salute. The site is so big spotting it on Google Earth is no problem (look north of the Airport for a big orange building). It is a very short walk to the Stupa and some other temples nearby but for the city centre the little white taxis are essential (and after which any theme park ride in the world will seem tame. The taxi driver and the hotel staff advised me to go to Pokhara but I wanted to see Durbar Sq.

  I spent ten days in this hotel in April 2008 and had an excellent stay. It is a beautiful building in a nice location out of the mayhem of Kathmandu - the place was something of an oasis of calm in a very hectic and dirty city. Service was friendly and efficient - and having stayed for a few days they remembered my name and were predicting my requests. The club rooms were excellent value and gave breakfast and evening drinks in a lovely lounge on the top floor. The pool and gardens are really beautiful and facilities all round excellent.

  We had a few minor problems upon check in one of which was we thought our rate included breakfast and we were told it did not. They dealt with our queries by upgrading us to a complimentary breakfast in their Regency Lounge and free sauna access. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. We loved the extras touches of welcome chocolates and following a trip to the pool we returned to a find a beautiful chocolate cake in our room as a gift for our honeymoon.

  Closer to the airport than downtown, but still a better choice in my opinion than the Yak & Yeti, where we also stayed a few days earlier. Large, chain-style hotel with pretty entryway (ponds and fountains) and unique lobby, two large shops. Large, expansive pool area and gardens, with tennis courts. Rooms were large, with everything you would expect in the way of toiletries, robes, hairdryers (but no slippers). Excellent bathroom with separate soaking tub and standing shower.

  Reasonably-priced spa, decent fitness room. Our room was a bit tired looking, even though we were on the special Hyatt Gold Passport wing.

• The room was spacious, modern, bright, well appointed, and even thought this is Nepal, everything worked. The bed was comfortable and the towels plush. The lobby restaurant has a wonderful view of Bauddha-Bodhnath Stupa.

  We did have to pay the cost of taxi [which Yak and Yeti should have paid, but arguing the point with Yak and Yeti’s poor English was not how we wanted to spend the afternoon.
