We located a wonderful hotel that day that was half the cost and convenient to everything.
I researched our accommodations extensively and selected Torre di Bellosguardo for our four nights in Florence because of raves about its location and as a romantic indulgence.
Unfortunately, the incredible location and inherent advantages of this lovely, historic building are not matched by the service.
This hotel has the location and physical plant to be one of the extraordinary small hotels of the world.
The magnificent views and the onsite underground carpark was convenient.
A hotel definitely to be recommended especially if one is looking for peace, beauty and fleeing all the noise and caos of the city of Florence, which in any case is only a five minute taxi ride away.
We assume the bedbugs were living in the upholstered headboard of our room's antique bed.
The bedrooms and reception rooms are full of lovely old pieces of furniture but don't expect perfection.
Moreover the staff were exceptionally helpful, the bed was comfortable.
Open a window from a guest room and it appears that you could reach out and touch the red-tiled rooftops of Florence.
Bed was great, breakfast was large and delicious, the owner just built a huge indoor pool.
You will become addicted to the blood orange juice every morning and you will pick one of the many areas to eat breakfast.
Oh, and they will make you a light pasta meal if necessary, although they don't have a full restaurant.
Similarly, on the two mornings we went to breakfast on the covered loggia, the setting was lovely, but the service was chaotic, if sincere.
It took forever, even for the continental breakfast, and we felt sorry for the overheated girls and the completely disorganized scheme they seemed compelled to follow.
Breakfast is served on a terrace overlooking distant Tuscan hills, and lunch at poolside, where a spectacular view of Florence provides a perfect backdrop on a sunny summer's day.
The lack of staff meant that often the pool bar was unmanned during the heat of the afternoon, and service in the hotel bar appeared to de dependent on whether the receptionist had time to leave their desk or not.
Also, we were told that we could have food brought up from the local restaurant by ordering it through reception, but the one night that we decided to avail of this service we were told that we were too late (8pm).
The service was at best average, with the staff hardly around to help.
Wonderful peaceful atmosphere and the staff was more than happy to share the stories.
We have seen the care and maintenance over the years, the development of the gardens, spa and underground parking garage.
Outdoor swimming pool are all beautifully maintained.
The pool overlooks the city and there is an aviary (sp) housing many song birds.
