All hotels in Ukraine have tendency to be overpriced and this one is not an exception.
I think that Kiev is headed the way of Moscow with it's overpriced hotels.
The location is near the city centre, and the staff is friendly.
The sports arena is right behind the hotel, so it's the perfect location if you want to see a soccer game.
This hotel is the location for all the sports teams who travel to Kiev.
Respublikanskyi Stadion Metro station is two mintues from the hotel and it is on the Blue line that runs up to the Maiden and then Poshtova Ploscha.
The metro was just in front of the hotel, which made it easy to get downtown.
We watched BBC News until we just couldn't stand the looping programs any longer, staff is nice, but you'll have to track down the chamber maids if you want extra towels or toilet paper -- good luck with that!
On the plus side, the bathroom was pretty good and also there was a newish LCD flat screen TV although we didn't even switch it on.
Breakfast is not necessarily included in the price of your room, so you have to make sure to negotiate that and they will give you breakfast tickets for it.
Our room on the 12th floor was a great disappointment.
Furniture is not new but all work correctly.
You are not going to be hungry after taking breakfast in the restaurant located on the last floor.
Hotel Sport was an excellent location - right across from Ani Restaurant which is one of the best places for a meal in Kiev!
The top floor hosts the morning breakfast buffet which seemed decent enough, and had a good variety of food from day to day which is rare in many of the Kiev hotels.
There are a bar and some shops in the hotel.
Breakfast was included in out rate of $205 per night but it was buffet-style and if you were not there at 07:30 then bad luck because everything just sat there, stewing in heated dishes.
No problem for getting a taxi service at anytime any day (including the most special holiday days!
Overall the staff was helpful, they do not speak English very well, so make sure you've brushed up on your Russian.
However, the spirit of the Baboushkas lives on in Reception.
The staff there are unwelcoming and taciturn but blend in well with the dull, rundown decor.
The staff were so unobtrusive as to be invisible.
It was very entertaining to watch the bball players duck into the elevators.
The desks directly outside the elevators where the fearsome floor wardens (baboushkas) oversaw comings and goings are still there.
Not a bad place to stay, the rooms were clean and decent.
