However, when you pay this much money for a hotel, they should not charge you for internet access or to make copies in the business center.
I expected superior service or better from a hotel like Solamar and I was extremely disappointing especially given the amount of money you pay per night.
I'd much rather pay more money and stay at a hotel, like the Omni which is not far from there, and receive far better service.
Overpriced hotel in trendy old town area of San Diego.
Well located on the verge of the Gaslamp, the hotel is in a nice location for Gas Lamp and lobby is beautiful.
The location was very close to the restaurants and there was a nice atmosphere.
The Hotel Solamar is in a great location with beautiful decor.
On my departure date I used the MTS bus service directly to the airport, which stops right in front of the hotel.
Public transportation is nearby and the city bus to the airport is a few steps outside the hotel.
The deep fuji soaking/jetted tub in the bathroom with the window looking out to the downtown buildings was a treat each night before bed!
My room and bathroom matched what is shown on the Internet (not one of those cases where the hotel only shows the grand suite on their website, and their other rooms don't even come close).
The room was very nicely appointed, bed comfy, nice decor, windows that open, high-end ammenities, etc.

I did not eat at the restaurant, and found the drinks at the pool bar to be pricy, but you have to experience the ambience at least once!
Food was at least as good (had both dinner and breakfast here) as 75% of the nearby restaurants, but maybe a notch shy of excellent.
The restaurant in the hotel J6 was very good we had 1 evening meal there, and we went every morning for breakfast.
We ate breakfast in their restaurant the first morning.
It closes around Midnight unfortunately but we just stepped over the elevator and closed out our night downstairs at Jsix which is the fantastic main bar and restaurant.
Great service at front desk and concierge.
Staff was very friendly and accomodating, although a formal concierge service would be nice.
4th floor lobby to get the elevator and go to wherever they are supposed to go and they are not quiet about it.
The pool is really cool, we had a glass of wine in the evening on the patio and also took advantage of the nightly wine reception in the lobby sitting room - very nice touch!
The gym was rather dirty, the pool had chair pads with stains and was over crowded.
The aveda products and wireless internet are also a huge plus!
I love the free wi-fi and the amenities were great (L'Occtiane).
We entered our room and I was pleased with the clean, soothing color palate and decor.
