The hotels central location is also ideal.

I stayed overnight with my boyfriend in December, from the outside the hotel looks lovely on a victorian terrace in a great location.

Dirty stained bed cover, rotton window frame, ripped ancient bed, stained dirty walls, peeling wall paper, scratched old furniture and a bunk bed which was battered and wobbly, stinking bathroom to mention a few of the delights.

The room was clean and bed very comfortable.

The bathroom was very large and of good quality with sink, toilet, and a bath with a shower.

The wallpaper was scruffy and old, the carpet was stained, the bed linen was tacky and all thrree clashed making the room unbearably drab and depressing.

2) The bathroom in my room had some sort of a strange pump thing attached to the toilet and sink that made a horrendous racket anytime the shower/sink was run or the toilet was flushed.

The bar and restaurant staff were polite and pleasant, and breakfast was one of the best we've had in Scarborough.

Id also like to praise the bar prices, a lot of hotels charge extortionate prices for liquor, the bottle of wine I enjoyed in the restaurant both nights came to less than £11.

Breakfast was extremely busy one morning and the chap in the restaurant took details of our room number but forgot to call us when there was a free table - we still got breakfast and an apology.

The breakfast wasn't too great either, and after a second evening in the hotel, we decided to go to another restaurant instead!

On the up-side the staff seemed friendly and helpful, the continental breakfast was good and Nix bar is still as fabulous as it was 2 years ago.

The reception staff did not know how to deal withy comments - 'you can see a duty manager if you like' was the response.

The rooms were very clean, the service was excellent, the staff were courteous, the food was of good quality and best of all it was excellent value for money.

All the reception/housekeeping staff were really helpful - we had a problem getting in our room as the first 2 keys we had didn't work - but the problem was sorted immediately.

Finally we found all the staff helpful and friendly, we got a parking pass for 24 hours+ for £4 from reception (parking is metered from 10 til 5) and various maps and information.

The pool is quite small and parking can be a problem plus car parking is not free.

Albeit the pool was closed after flood damage, the gym was open.

Decided to use leisure facility and have a swim at the heated pool, the hotel lift took an eternity to arrive so walked down dodging the wet paint everywhere.

Our double room was spacious, appeared to have been fairly recently refurbished and was very clean.

The rooms are spartan but were quite clean.

Our room was small, a little shabby but adequate and very clean.

The bathroom was a good size and equally clean.

The breakfast was nice, buffet style which always goes down well with us, the room was clean and bright.
