I feel Places to Stay did not secure a fair price and the hotel was pre-paid therefore you had no way of backing out of the contract without paying penalties.
Nice and quiet hotel, the price was quite reasonable.
Overall for the price of the hotel is a good, clean, friendly and a great place to see Athens from - if you want room service, a View from the hotel and to spend more time 'enjoying' your hotel other then sightseeing this may not be for you.
Even other guests were complaining about the condition, location and price of this hotel.
The location was excellent for access to attractions and the Hotel Rio was perfect for our needs.
The location of this hotel was in a sketchy part of Athens, although they say it is of walking distance to the sites, but you would have to walk through areas which our personal safety was at risk.
Next day I returned to Sintagma and stayed at Pan Hotel for 60e a night in a much better room and location.
Just few steps away to the subway, (metro station METAXOURGHIO).
Delightful, extremely polite service, well worth the money, convenient shopping area and near metro station.
We were offered a tiny room on the ground floor with a small double bed you can only access from one side.
My son used the other bed that was in the room but he felt very uncomfortable.
The rooms are very clean and the beds and towels changed every day.
The bathroom was gross (tub was clogged and would not drain, towels the size of hand towels which looked like they should be used as rags).
They put all 4 of us in a small room with dorm sized uncomfortable twin beds.
The staff (reception, bar & restaurant) are very friendly and help you as much as they can, the breakfast was really good, the rooms are clean and tidy.
The restaurant and bar downstairs, serves lovely greek and Italian food, draught beer and refreshing drinks and cocktails.
You can use some computers in the restaurant/bar area with the purchase of a pay for use card which was not priced too high.
The indoor/outdoor restaurant is excellent and the included continental breakfast is delicious.
While I had waited for my taxi the girl that was in the restaurant spoke only Greek, but she knew 2 key words in the morning: breakfast & yes!
The walls were paper thin and we didn't sleep a wink for both nights as we could hear the reception staff and other guests - both next door and upstairs, as if they were in the room with us!
Worryingly, the staff on reception didn't appear particularly surprised!
We enjoyed the staff very much, they speak very good english and were very helpful.
Service is fast cheerful and friendly and all of the desk personell while we were there spoke english well.
The staff is welcoming and helpful and also extremely knowledgeable.
The food was excellent and the staff very accomodating-especially the desk manager who spoke fluent English and was ready to help with any inquiries.
I thought to myself that now that free shuttle would come in handy.
The rooms were clean and had a cozy style which reminds you of home.
The rooms were clean and the accomodations were standard.
