With the great location, exceptional prices and beautiful styleings this hotel is a must for all San Diego visiters, students, professionals and familes alilke.
I do recommend visiting this European style hotel, not only for the good acommodations and service, but also the price is very accesible ;).
Excellent value for a clean stylish hotel.
I travel frequently to San Diego on business and although born and raised in San Diego, I often have difficulty pouring hard earned money into the larger monolithic hotel chains.
It is in an excellent location just a 10 minute walk from the centre of downtown and right next to Balboa Park.
A great, quiet location that is 2 blocks from almost every cultural and recreational activity.
The location was incredible - walking distance to Balboa Park and the zoo.
I took two city buses to reach the hotel from the airport.
I arrived at the hotel after a $10 cab ride from the airport.
I asked the difference between the two rooms, I was told both had shared bath, kitchenette and a twin bed.
Clean (but small) room with a comfortable regular bed, a fold-out bed, a television, a fan and a kitchenette with a microwave oven, sink and refrigerator.
We had a full size bed with a shared bath, it was so neat.
The rooms can be small, but I booked the largest room with a private bath and it was fairly spacious.
When I called to book the room I was told that it was going to be a busy weekend and that they only had a full and twin bed available.
The free continental breakfast was nice but the place where they displayed the food was overrun with some sort of gnats or fruit flies that made me want to get in and out as soon as possible.
Also, the breakfast dining area was very small and dirty by the time I got there (which is only about 15-30 minutes after 7.
Very pleasant to enjoy the free breakfast in the sunny courtyard before setting off to make the most of San Diego's charms.
All in all the hotel has much to offer, free wi-fi, breakfast and great bikes to use around the city.
For breakfast they had muffins, bons, oatmeal, cereals, coffee, tea, milk, beverages and fresh fruits.
The housekeeping staff is amazing - the guy who said there was no maid service must have had a Do Not Disturb sign out or something, because our room was spotless every time we returned to it.
I've worked on a hotel reception and it can get wearying answering the same questions day after day, but Occidental staff responded with enthusiasm to every question.
When they say "shared showers," I initially had visions of gym class in high school, but these are private showers, one person at a time - it's just that you may have to wait your turn, just as if you were staying in a home.
The one negative thing I could say is that there's not a lot of parking on the property, but the offset is that there is a ton of residential parking nearby, which is free.
And I must really commend on their housekeeping.
I do agree with their dial-up serive, which is the only setback i feel.
The fact that they provide free 54Mbps wireless was a beautiful gift.
The shared bathrooms and showers are very clean.
My room was beautiful, clean and comfortable I found the hotel to be quite charming.

Once checked in you will find your room clean, quite, beautifully and simply furnished along with Black and White photos and T.
