Hotel Las Americas Global Resort

My husband, two daughters (21 & 18) and I visited Cartagena from Feb 21 to 28, 2005 and stayed at Las Americas, close to the airport and a five-minute taxi ride from Cartagena -- truly the best of both worlds.

My room (beach front, upscale) had a very old and uncomfortable bed and a really small TV.

We had the misfortune of a leak in our room due to heavy rain; I went and explained to reception and within 1 hr we had one of the suites to compensate for the hassel of moving rooms!

Unless you get a suite, the rms are of standard size with 1 King or 2 Queen beds, TV and a safe.

If you go to Las Americas ask for a king size bed!

5 or 6pm shuttle to the Old or new City and walked around and took in the sights till the last shuttle brought us back at 830pm then we had a nice dinner and by then we were more than ready for bed!

Although you can have an all-inclusive meal plan, we opted for the breakfast only since we wanted to experience the local cuisine (the seafood there is incredible!

Weekend BBQ restaurant and Menu were fantastic but only availble for lunch.

You can choose from buffet or a la carte and there is also Thai food at night in the 'Comedor de Los Reyes' restaurant.

The food was excellent with an a la carte menu and restaurants catering seafood, Thai and mixed grill specialties.

For lunch there is a beach restaurant open daily, and a grill restaurant open on weekends.

Tons of staff constantly keeping all areas of the hotel spotless, super service and our bathroom was kind of renewed.

Capilla Del Mar and Las Americas are owned by the same company and you are allowed to use the services of either hotels including the shuttle service!

Room service was excellent and at least some of the waiters I heard speaking good English.

I can't emphasize enough how incredibly friendly and helpful the staff are.

There are two large pools, each with a their own bar, a smaller pool for the children, and a reasonably-sized jacuzzi.

The only complaint I had was the "spa" they claim to have is really just a gym with a tiny massage room.

We spent a lot of time at the pool away from the main eating area; it was a little quieter.

Athomosphere : This place is ideal for couples, the staff is friendly and helpful, rooms – are very clean.
