Four-star La Tortuga Hotel & Spa is ideally located close to the beach in Playa del Carmen. Playa’s famous Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) is open to foot traffic only and is filled with a wide selection of restaurants, bars and shops.

La Tortuga Hotel & Spa is a small boutique hotel designed to offer unlimited opportunities for water activities.

Each of 51 rooms has personality and charm. Televisions come with cable channels. Many accommodations feature a sitting area, rooftop terrace, private Jacuzzi, hammock, chairs and table on the balcony. The hotel provide with daily beach towels for the beach club.

Dining options at the hotel include a restaurant and a coffee shop/café. Guests can unwind with a drink at one of the hotel's bars, which include a poolside bar and a bar/lounge. A complimentary breakfast is offered each morning.

La Tortuga Hotel & Spa is strategically situated between 12th and 14th Streets, in the centre of Playa del Carmen, just one block from the downtown hub.

This hotel is near the beach and within walking distance of 28 de Julio Square and Playa del Carmen Main Beach. Also nearby are Pier Navega and Mamitas Beach Club.

Rooms

Each room has AC, ceiling fan, coffee machine, in-room safe, hair dryer. Guests have a choice between five different types of rooms: Standard Room, Standard Plus, Junior Suite, Superior Junior Suite or a Swim Up Room.

Standard Rooms come with a variety of bed combinations - one king, two queen, one queen, one queen and one individual or twin beds. Four of the rooms feature a balcony. Those guests staying in rooms without a balcony are welcome to have a rest in the common leisure area just outside the standard rooms.

Standard Plus rooms have a balcony and are decorated with a tasteful Caribbean flair. You can choose from one king sized or two queen size beds upon request. Maximum occupancy for rooms with king-sized beds is two people; maximum occupancy for rooms with double queen-sized beds is four people.

Junior Suites rooms have a Jacuzzi, a balcony (or the rooftop terrace) and sitting area. They feature flat screen TVs, bathrobes and slippers, iron and ironing board, iPod station. Guests can choose from one king-sized bed or two queen-sized beds. This type of room can accommodate more that two people.

Superior Junior suites are nestled in one of the most enchanting areas of the hotel. Each of them has a private Jacuzzi, either in the room or on the own private terrace. They have all the features of Junior Suites and a comfortable Spring Air king-sized bed. Some have private pool and sitting area in the garden. Breakfast in the room is available in this room type. Private dinner can be arranged in the room/terrace.

Swim-Up rooms features a very convenient access to the pool directly from the balcony. There are five swim-up rooms, four of which come with one king-sized bed, and one which comes with two queen-sized beds.

Pets are not allowed.

Extra person fee is USD22 per night, holiday season fee - USD42.

Baby cots are not available.

Getting there

The main point of arrival Cancun International Airport is 50.2km from the hotel.

From Cancun Airport by car:

Take the only highway south towards Playa, and wait until you will see the green exit (on your left hand side) signs for Playa.

Wait until you pass most of them and take the exit that says "AVENIDA JUAREZ", one of the last.

Take a left, and drive all the way along Avenida Juarez until the end, where you will be forced to take a left (one way street), upon meeting Avenida 10.

Drive along Avenida 10 for about 10 blocks until, on your right hand side, you will see La Tortuga Hotel at the corner of Calle (street) 14.

Other transportation available from the airport includes:

  • buses that leaves from outside the main arrival hall at the airport. Just before you exit the terminal, there is a Riviera counter where you can buy your ticket (about USD9). In Playa del Carmen the bus works out of the main bus terminal at 5th Avenue and Juarez.

  • a colectivo is (usually) a van that will take up to 10 people. They don't leave at any specific time, but you will have to wait until it's full enough to justify the trip. You may have to make stops at other resorts and hotels along the way, which can easily double the time it will take you to get to Playa del Carmen. To take one of these authorized taxis, go to any of the TTC kiosks located around the terminal and buy a ticket, or just step out of the arrival hall and you will get many offers. The price usually works out to about USD18 per person.

  • taxis that depart from the terminal. It is roughly a 45 minute ride to Playa del Carmen. A union controls who can carry tourists from the airport and what they charge. Taxis originating in Playa del Carmen are not actually authorized to take people to Playa, but you may end up with a driver that cannot find his way around Playa very well. The ride to Playa del Carmen will cost you around USD65.

  • airport transfers are available 24 hours a day, no extra costs for late night pick-ups or departures. Approximate amount for transfer is USD55 for one or two people.
