  Rooms large and well furnished with spacious bathrooms both very clean. Tranquil garden , nice for a relaxing drink after sightseeing. The breakfast buffet was good with plenty of choice and the waiting staff very helpful, as was the porter.

  This one was work related -but certainly I enjoyed the unique character of the venue, the location, the cheap flights! The location is ideal - the pricing generally on offer is superb value.

  Beds were comfortable, and it was nice to unpack the suitcase and put things in both the dressor and closet. You could have a good bkfst and then just a very light lunch, and a good dinner. Location is good, close to the stadium, and there are bars and shops close.

  Rooms were of average size, bathroom has everything you need, but the layout is a bit ackward. When sitting on the toilet you have your face in the sink. Personally I would get rid of the bidet and put in a bathtub. There is a computer with Internet access, but it is very slow, and there is only one for everyone. The elevator is indeed very nice, but also a bit slow and finiky, I pretty much just used the stairs all the time, we were only on the 2nd floor so it was not that long of a walk.

  The food in the restaurant was superb and the breakfast very good. The rooms were spotless and were cleaned every day - the beds changed as well every day. The staff were friendly and made you feel welcome and it was very well run. The location is excellent - beautifully quiet, but with that French edge. It was my mums birthday and they put flowers in the room for her and generally made a fuss.

  The hotel is a bit faded, and other peoples comments about cigarette burns in the carpet - I had a small one in my room - were unjustified, since it is not the hotels fault, merely careless people who stay there.

• Week-end à Nîmes

  Nous y sommes allés pour le week-end et c’était fantastique. C’est un hôtel pas très récent, et dans les précédents commentaires, il a été question de trous dans la moquette dus à des brûlures de cigarettes – dans ma chambre, il y en avait un petit – Ce n’est pas une critique valable, car ce n’est pas la faute de l’hôtel si des gens sans gêne y séjournent. Ils ne vont quand même pas changer la moquette à chaque fois que quelqu’un quitte une chambre ? Au restaurant, les repas étaient délicieux, et le petit déjeuner était très bon. Les chambres étaient impeccables et nettoyées chaque jour, les draps aussi étaient changés tous les jours. Il vaut bien ses quatre étoiles, et est de très bonne qualité pour le prix. Les employés étaient gentils et nous ont vraiment bien accueillis, c’est un hôtel vraiment bien géré. L’emplacement est excellent – un bel endroit calme, avec en plus ce petit côté français. C’était l’anniversaire de ma mère et ils ont mis des fleurs pour elle dans la chambre et lui ont vraiment fait la fête. En un mot, ils sont formidables…

  The Imperator is a perfectly situated, quaint hotel with some grand public areas and excellent, family-like service. We had one dinner at the hotel, and it was excellent. General service and staff helpfulness was superb; you were always greeted by someone as you entered and left the building.

  It isn't just minor things like the rusty door hardware on the grand 200 year-old shutters outside each window, it's important things that affect the quality of your stay and your general attitude in any hotel: The padded cloth-covered walls in our guestroom were badly soiled with soot-like spots near the air vents and elsewhere; the grand plumbing fixtures needed re-outfitting; the bedspreads and pillow shims were horrendously faded; some of the tile groutings in the bathtub were mildew stained; some of the cable channels (CNN in particular) had distorted sound. Free WiFi service was available in the lobby/lounge, guestrooms, and outside courtyard.

  The lift in the hotel is a magnificent antique and is worthy of a mention. Breakfast can be taken in the large attractive garden. We ate out each evening and did find 2 good family run restaurants which were quite reasonable:-Restaurant Nicolas Martin, 1 Rue Poise, Nimes & Le Provencal, 4 Rue de l'ecole vielle.

  The rooms were clean enough, though dated as was the bathroom.

  Our room was basically furnished and tatty. The staff generally casual and unconcerned, the manager was away for the weekend and so they had no-one to pass our complaints on to. No mattress covers, lumpy pillows, no Sky TV, poor audio on CNN no snacks, no room service, no shower cap, no notepad, no pen, nothing to warrant the price! PS We are still waiting for the Manager to contact us!

  Looked great as we drew up and parked our hire car (from Hertz - via the Ryanair website) outside and were greeted by the friendly porter/concierge. That was the last time he was friendly for our 5 days there - I suppose the 5 Euro tip we gave him for parking the car in the 13 Euro a night car park just wasn't enough! The room looked great too, overlooking the courtyard with its fountain. The breakfast buffet was uninspiring, but the breakfast MD was very pleasant and efficient. The car parking was a rip-off and inconvenient as you had to get a porter (not Mr Happy) to get the keys from reception, and be escorted to the garge which led out into some back streets.

  We went to Arles instead, but were really disappointed at how the entrance to the old town was a mess of of shabby down at heel kebab shops, and unshaven men hanging around in stained vests.
