This is now my favorite hotel, and I hope to return someday (but will probably have to start saving money now to pay for it).
The breakfast (ours was included in the price) was ample and we had dinner in the hotel one evening which again was nice.
Yes, the hotel has incredible old world charm and it is in a great location, however the rooms and amenities are not quite up to what one would expect for the money and the star rating.
If you are booked in the annex across the street, I would keep on walking DOWN the street and find a similar or better room at ANY hotel at half the price.
The location is excellent and centrally located in the old town of Salzburg the Goldener Hirsch is a delight.
Excellent location and we received a lovely booklet outlining the history of the hotel.
The staff is always friendly and helpful, but the best part is the location.
We never needed to take a taxi anywhere except when it was time to leave.
The hotel itself is done in a Hansel and Gretel fairytale style, which means very low ceilings so watch out if you are over 5 foot 6.
I had booked a room in the Festival wing, but for some reason we were upgraded to a most charming room, full of beautiful antique furniture, a most comfortable and huge double bed, and a wonderful marbleclad bathroom.
I was upgraded to a huge room - bedroom/seating area, entryway, and bath with a toilet and another with a shower.
Our room had an adequate bed area and an extremely large bathroom, but we didn't spend much time there.
The upstairs bedroom had a bed, several end tables, a closet, another tv and a chest.
The room was beautifully decorated, great colors and furniture and bedding, and the bathroom was huge and spotless and of perfect modern convenience and luxury.
The hotel's restaurant serves very high quality food and the bar and breakfast areas are really nice.
The breakfast room, restaurant and bar area are also.
The food in the restaurant was very good but the buffet breakfast pricey at 25 Euro per person.
The Bar and the restaurant were average to above average both in service and product.
This is a full service hotel with 24 hours room service and two restaurants (I liked the main restaurant very much).
The service at the hotel is exemplary-- we drove into town, and saw the hotel restaurant and parked on the backside of the hotel while I tried to figure out where the reception was.
We found the service was excellent and the staff very efficient.
The service from the hotel staff was first-class.
In conclusion The Goldener Hirsch is not your usual run of the mill hotel, food and drink prices are high,friendly service from the staff, excellent location in the old town, 10 euro taxi fare to airport.
When asked if someone in housekeeping could iron our clothes, the answer was "no".
It would take less than a minute to walk to the birthplace of Mozart, the various grand platz, the lifts to the fortress etc.
It's not a typical huge Ritz Carlton with modern minimalist decor and a huge spa, so if you're expecting that, you're staying in the wrong place.
The service was impeccable, the bedroom large and clean and cosy.
Clean, comfortable, spacious and amazingly adorable rooms!
Our room had a terrific view of Salzburg, it was very clean, very comfortable.
The bathroom had all emenities in it and was very new and clean.
The bathrooms were large, spotless, and well equipped.
