  Grand old hotel in wonderful position, maintaining its historically high standards.

  Some confusion about the two restaurants, which seem to share the same dining room but offer different menus.

  Best location in town, best food in town with Michelin starred and deserved food.

  When i last stayed here it was the one thing lacking and we had to go to another hotel for spa treatments.

  For that extra bit of cash you get the absolute best location ever, access to a great spa, very professional massages, very friendly service, huge room - if you ask and a great outdoor pool area. 50 you are paying for the exquisite room you are privilaged to sit in while you drink it and the man playing the grand piano.

• If you, dear fellow travelers, should decide to indulge there make sure to refuse the second floor and it's small windows, (unless, as was suggested, you are the kind of people who like crammed quarters) because other floors have larger windows and balconies. Besides this - serious - room allocation problem we are happy to report that everything else is as you would expect from such a place, stylish, lavish with extremely pleasant service all over.

  We were given a small room with a tiny bathroom and so-so view for only a little under the highest listed price. If you charge a small fortune and you have plenty rooms available than you should make sure your few clients get the best rooms, not the worst.

  This is a pretty stunning hotel in terms of location, service and overall presentation - I certainly got no complaints from my two kids (11,13) and my other half when we rolled up to the highly impressive entrance. The lobby is opulent and lavish as are the dining rooms. Bedrooms are fine but nothing out of the ordinary for a 5* star hotel. Staff service levels are pretty good although you do get the impression from a few of them that they are so busy making sure various hotel rules are obeyed and correct etiquette is observed that they've forgotten that their only purpose should be to actually make guests happy! The hotel is a short 10 minute walk from the town centre (try Cassa Juan Pedro's restaurant at the harbour - cheap and basic but packed every night serving great char grilled food) and the beach is literally on your doorstep. Regarding value; if you feel the need to check bar/food prices before you order then this hotel is not for you - it's ludicrously expensive but you have to put that out of your mind or you won't enjoy what it has to offer.

  Spa & indoor pool is sumptuous however the outdoor pool area whilst perfectly functional is a little bit worn out and gets cramped in high season. You get two bit pool waiters earning not a lot thinking they can look down their nose at you because they've served a few famous faces.

  5): the rooms are less nice than in the past and the food is way below what one would expect. The pool on the ocean side + a room with ocean view is still pretty much unbeaten.

  The spa is very luxureous, but could also have been in the alpes.

  The spa is very good with a good range of treatments and high quality service.

  Our room had a view of the ocean but was cold, dirty and in deperate need of redecoration. As well as peeling paint the room was missing some of the very basic amenities that you normally find in a luxury hotel (such as more than one pillow and one towel each). We had several meals in the hotel including breakfast and dinner and were disappointed with both. Breakfast consisted of 2 cold fried eggs, 1 rasher of bacon, a slice of toast and a pot of tea for which we were charged 70 Euros. Ultimately, I suspect this hotel was at its best a number of years ago - there are many photos on the wall of the Hollywood stars who have stayed here, however, they are all dated in the 1950's to 1970's/80's when I suspect our hotel room was last properly decorated or the restaurant menu revised.

  The suite was magnificent and overlooked the ocean. The staff was friendly and very tolerant towards our children. However, our room did not have a single trace of cigarette smell.

  The rate for a suite was not outrageous considering the setting.
