There was nothing about the hotel to differentiate it from any middle of the road hotel anywhere in the world other than the price.
Prices were very high, but this is endemic to the whole city of Oslo and not just the hotel.
It is somewhat expensive for the facilities, but the location (outside the National Theatre with its train station, and close to the new shops at Akke Brygge) is really good.
This is a very nice hotel and the location is supurb, directly across from the National Theater and next to the Palace and main shopping street.
The location is of course excellent and the cafe Dagligstuen are perfect places for meeting.
It's right in the middle of town near the harbor and a close walk to the train transfer station (Note: if you arrive from the airport, take the train and NOT a cab - much cheaper and easier).
The hotel has an excellent location for both transportation- near the metro, tram and bus stops - and for exploring - near the Aker Brygges, Radhaus, National Theatre, Royal Palace to name a few.
But at least the room was clean and the bed was fine.
There was a small armchair, sofa and coffee table at the foot of the bed, television, minibar and small desk.
The bed we had was EXCEPTIONALLY comfortable, and I am picky about my beds!
The room was large and the bathroom was bigger.
The bedroom area had 2 twin beds pushed together to form a king - not my fave method but common in European hotels.
The lobby bar is lively and very well assorted, and I highly recommend a visit to the Theatercafèen Restaurant, which is an institution in Oslo.
Breakfasts were very good and served in a large, quiet and comfortable dining room that looked out over the busy theater district.
The bar area had a few hipsters hanging around it.
One night the restaurant we wanted wasn't available and they found an excellent substiture for us, in the same neighborhood and price range.
The breakfasts, included in the price, were great!
The front desk staff are some of the most qualified, attentive folks I've ever run accross.
The service was immpecable and presentation was great!
Overall, I also missed the basic polish and service attitude of a 5-star; the Continental is more of a 3-star.
The staff is very friendly and courteous.
We were very surprised that a hotel of this caliber did not have any gym or at least a sauna.
Check-in was fast and efficient, but maybe too efficient, I had to ask for the elevator.
There is no sauna (and this is Scandinavia.
Very friendly helpful staff and clean room.
Our room was clean and even had a little bit of a view of the fjord - request a high floor in the back of the hotel.
The room we stayed in was very comfortable, clean and quiet.
