  The grounds are lovely and the staff very nice, but the bed was miserably uncomfortable. Everything else was fine, but basically the bed is the most important feature in a hotel room.

• The beds (as far as Costa Rica goes) were as comfortable as to be expected. The place is clean - with a nice pool and grounds. You also have a decent bar with lovely buffets.

• The room was large, clean and comfortable. Best thing was the buffet restaurant, which we enjoyed for two breakfasts and two dinners.

  The food selection was very broad, including both typical Costa Rican dishes and international cuisine.

  Even if the night was already paid for and we had a confirmed reservation! We were transferred to another Barcelo hotel (Rincon del Valle) which was OK but no pool, no bar, no gardens, no alchool at the restaurant and the bar, and the hotel is location is quite bad.

  Hotel is located in relative proximity to SJO airport and for a fee of $20 you can conveniently catch a cab. I have had more pleasant wait times in my dentist's office compared to the wait for check in/out at the front desk. Hotel rooms are spacious, well decorated and clean.

  Although the hotel advertises a free, set schedule shuttle service from the airport, the wait of 2 and a half hours was unacceptable to me after a long trip. Service as a whole leaves a lot to be desired for the claim of caliber of this hotel.

  I just found that even at the front dest they were not all that friendly or helpful.

  The issue I had with this hotel was the service. We decided we wanted to open the bar in our room for refreshments, it says to call the front desk to get it unlocked. It was at that time that the waitress offered to carrry them back for us. At this point I thought she got the picture that yes indeed we wanted service and drinks by the pool. After dinner we went to the front desk to ask for someone to come to our room to lock the bar after about 20 minutes the task was complete. Finally the fellow at the service desk in frustation said "oh just forget it we wont charge you.

• The service was wonderful, the day trips OUTSTANDING and the desire to return STRONG.

  My husband stayed there 2 nights at the start of his trip and then I joined him midtrip for a night and then we stayed a 4th night before leaving the next morning from the San Jose Airport.

  While the accomodations were still nice, we found the service to be lacking. Each morning we were forced to the front desk to remind them that our reservation via booked. Also, we left word with the front desk that we would be having a package delivered to the hotel the day prior to our final night's stay. Ironic, because when we arrived and asked if the package had arrived upon check in they had the notes right there with our reservation.

  The view from rooms is good except for the north east group (roof tops only). The buffet was extensive and quite good, fresh and well maintained. Rooms appear to have been upgraded except for the bathroom fixtures. Lots of buses and tour buses arriving during day. Good choice and easy access from the SJO airport.

  Similarly the pool area with its 'tropical island' appeared a little tired and dated.
