  One good thing is the decor of the rooms including ye olde toilet, but thats about it.

  Totally rude service and at times a distinct contempt from the staff at the desk. Weekend noise is very loud and penetrates the room easily.

  The room itself was nice, not anything special, just nice. Definitely spend your well earned money somewhere else where it is quiet!

  The Horton grand was able to give us 10 rooms when we had to leave another hotel. The rooms were great.

  It was as if the front desk clerk understood very well that the Hotel stinks like cigar smoke and is in deperate need of repair. From beat up funiture in the room to water damaged floors.

  The rooms themselves are clean and relatively comfortable, but there are serious flaws - the fireplace was a mere two feet from the end of the bed, the pull-chain toilet, while quaint, is extremely loud, there is no comfortable chair in the room to sit in (it's the bed or nothing). Unfortunately, we had a street-facing room, and the construction noise made an "ideal" alarm clock for us - even though it started about 3 hours earlier than we would have liked to have been woken up. After checking out, our attempt to collect our bags from the bellboy took another good 15 minutes; we had to walk through the halls of the lobby and hotel to find someone to open the room for us. I understand that the hotel may not normally need that much staff, but for a YEARLY event (this was not the first year), such as a convention that had every hotel for 5 miles booked solid, perhaps they ought to consider hiring one or two extra bodies.

  The morning after our first night, we sat in the restaurant of a DIFFERENT hotel (the one at the Horton couldn't seem to be bothered with acknowledging us standing there for about 15 minutes), and called about 6 different hotels, trying to get a room somewhere else. However, this pales in comparison to the absolutely atrocious and abysmal service and staff. Even though my fiance and I were both booked in one room, they were confused when I tried to check in. The lady who works the front desk was rude, brusque, and generally extremely unfriendly. When we asked the cab driver about the cabs not taking calls, he was extremely confused. The quality of service completely undermines any charm its psuedo-Victorian veneer may offer.

  The Horton Grand reminds me of a bed and breakfast without the breakfast. The rooms were decorated in lace curtains, flowery wall paper and bed spreads, fire places and fringed lamps. Rooms were small and not roomy enough for more than 2 people. For instance the fireplace was less than 2 feet from the foot of the bed in one room. We stayed in three different rooms during our 3 day stay. The first room was located next to the service elevator. When you check in, be sure to ask if your room is near this. Every floor has several rooms that are affected by this.
