The big debate was between the Shangri-La and this hotel, however, seeing as I was only staying for one night (coming up from Beijing), and the price difference (Shangri-La was 1060RMB plus 15% vs.
Stayed for 1 night during the Ice Festival and chose this hotel for price, and cause we get "Priority Points".
Great location and nice, clean modern hotel, close to everything.
The location is one of the best in Harbin.
Given the price and location, I would stay here again!
No where have I visited have I experienced so much horn honking as in Harbin, mostly from taxi drivers.
The reason I mention this is where the hotel is located is an area with many taxis.
The other hotel I've stayed at in Harbin (See Sinoway review) had a very hard bed.
A room service menu was available, wash/dry cleaning, massage and such.
The rooms are THE cleanest I have seen in a Holiday Inn, ANYWHERE.
The rate for the quality of the room is probably the best in Harbin.
This was outrageous because the total priority club confirmed room rate was only 3725 CNY for 4 nights and they wanted me to put twice the amount on my card and then sign off on it as well.
I did not eat at the restaurant or use the spa.
The breakfast buffet was lovely in the morning with a huge range of foods.
The buffet breakfast included in the rate was OK - nothing too special - the regular western and Chinese breakfast foods.
There's a KFC nearby (if you like that kind of food).
Location is at the top of Zhongyang street so its safe and shopping and dining starts at the front door.
Service is good, we borrowed umbrellas daily from the concierge and got directions and information as well.
The staff were pretty friendly, and the front desk staff were able to converse in English as well - though I do speak Mandarin.
The staff was helpful (Though I must admit while I don't speak chinese, I had an interpreter) There is a business center with internet access to check web based email.
However upon arrival the staff were very polite and helpful.
Probably the biggest problem though is the staff can barely speak English and many cannot speak it at all.
HOWEVER, this is an American branded hotel, so many will pick this hotel with the expectation of an English speaking staff.
The hotel has a very small and drab lobby.
It is clean and the staff is helpful but the rooms are really not great.
The room was clean, the linens were changed regularly (everyday of I wanted).
The room was quite large and clean (even bigger than my room at the Peninsula in Manila!
