Overview

Located in the heart of Cork City, the Gresham Metropole has been one of the city’s landmarks for over 100 years and has recently undergone extensive refurbishment.

Originally opened in 1897, it was constructed by Arthur Hill and occupied the upper floors of the premises until it was purchased by the Gresham Hotel Group in 1999 that expanded the hotel to fill the whole building. The property is designed to meet every need of travelers, sharing 12 conference rooms and excellent Leeside Leisure centre.

Guests will be accommodated in one of 112 tastefully decorated bedrooms, equipped with all necessities to ensure a relaxing stay. Comfortable duvets, tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access are just some of the features of these rooms.

The Riverview Restaurant is located at the rear of the hotel and offers stunning views of Cork city centre and a delicious buffet breakfast. Evening meals and a fine selection of drinks are available in the Met Bar.

All are well detailed and equipped with modern amenities – the perfect home away from home in one of the finest Cork City Centre hotels. They come with en-suite with bath/shower, hair dryer, cable television, iron and board, direct dial telephone and work desk. Executive rooms and junior suites are more spacious and offer splendid views of Cork City over the River Lee or MacCurtain Street. Rooms are non-smoking only (smoking on request).

Dining options

Situated to the rear of the hotel the Riverview Restaurant has some unique views over the famous River Lee and the city center. It is opened each morning for breakfast only, which offers a wide variety of hot and cold options and is served from 7am until 10.30am Monday to Friday and from 8am until 12pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Met Cafe Bar is situated at the front of the hotel, along MacCurtain Street. It is a spacious, elegant and traditional style bar, split over two levels with a large screen on the upper level and more serene ambiance at the lower level. The bar is furnished with comfortable sofas and is a home to an original collection of artwork. A full food menu is served each evening until 10pm.

The hotel offers a buffet breakfast at the price of EUR 10 per person per night.

The Gresham Metropole Hotel has a suite of 12 meeting rooms, ranging in style from intimate drawing rooms to a grand ballroom. They can accommodate up to 350 delegates and provide natural light and air-conditioning, mineral water, whiteboard, flipchart and LCD projector, dedicated butler service, complimentary Wi-Fi, full range of audio visual equipment and secretarial services.

Getting there.

The Gresham Metropole Hotel Cork is conveniently located close to shopping, entertainment and the business district of Cork City. It is close to train and bus stations and only 6km from Cork Airport.

Getting around.

Cork Airport is approximately 15 minutes drive to the Gresham Metropole Hotel. Driving from Cork Airport on exiting airport you approach a roundabout, on the main Cork to Kinsale road (N27). Take the first exit from this roundabout signposted for Cork City. Go straight down the hill, passing through two sets of traffic lights, until you reach the large roundabout at the bottom of the hill. Take the third exit from this roundabout, signposted for City Centre (N27). Continue straight on through four sets of traffic lights. Be in the second lane from the left, and turn left at the next junction (after the Elysian Building – an 18-storied building on right). Follow this turn right at the next junction, across the river. Continue straight on now, until come to a T-junction, at which turn left. The Gresham Metropole Hotel will be on the opposite bank of the river. At the next set of traffic lights, turn right to cross the river, go straight through the next junction, and then turn right at the following set on MacCurtain Street, the hotel is situated 200m along this on the right hand side.

  Great location and service, one of the most interesting streets on Cork. Just a very nice hotel, excellent front of house staff and the rooms were clean, modern and spacious. The bar was very relaxed and good prices, and the breakfast was fantastic.

  Good location for Cork and very nice hotel. The lobby is fine and the check in staff were friendly, such a comfy bed and black out curtains I love, pool is great.
