Compared to prices of lower standard hotels it was incredibly good value for money (255GBP).
We stayed at the Grand August 2004 & paid NOK 1040 per night for a double room, bearing the price in mind, we thought the hotel was very nice & good value.
Overall a great hotel but probably wouldn't pay 5 star prices to stay there.
I negotiated a fair price directly with the hotel rather than using internet sites.
However, this is no 5 star hotel but the location is really good.
Perfect location, within easy walking distance to all tourist sites.
Its in a superb location, clean hotel beds comfy and elegant style.

The guy who checked us in confirmed our booking for a room with a double bed and two extra beds for the kids.
It was not uncommon for non-smoking rooms to smell of cigarettes or bathroom floors and bath tubs to be dirty.
The bed was very comfortable and the room had sound-proof windows and thick curtains, so a good nights sleep was easy.
Large (proper) double bed, sofa, huge modern bathroom.
The big bed was in an extended part of the room which shielded it and made it more homely, very nice indeed.
Some nice restaurants that we ate at were Peppe's Pizza (a must try), TGI Fridays (next to Aker Brygge), an Indian restaurant (I forget the name - its right next to Grand Hotel inside a shopping arcade - afffordable unlimted buffet).

I’m not a breakfast person so can’t comment on them but the location of the restaurant is good; overlooking the Oslo parliament building and the main street.
The breakfast was tasty, served buffet style in the adjoining cafe bar - again not what I would expect from such a "grand" hotel, but it was fine overall.
Reception & concierge staff are knowledgeable, but understaffed and could certainly be more friendly and enthuisiastic.
Compliments there to Cristoph at reception who was one of the nicest staff we came across in Norway and was very helpful.
The location is central in the city, is a great hotel and reception staff are pleasant and helpful.
We told them that we were disappointed with out hotel and they allowed us to use their sauna, pool area for two days free of charge, which was greatly appreciated and cheered us up a bit.
The swimming pool, sauna are excellent with nice views over the city and the public areas are very classy and elegant.
The only complaints were the cost of car parking and the prices in city centre restaurants.
I did like the free wireless internet access though, even if you need a new code each day.
But we had a look at the rooms and they are very nice, new and clean so we will definitely stay there if we should come to Oslo again.
The room itself was clean enough but a bit old and tired looking - definitely in need of an update.
The facilities of this beautiful Grand Hotel (member of the SRS World hotels) are gorgeous and clean, including the bathrooms!
However, if you want a fresh room (albeit smaller) and good breakfast at a lower price I would recommend RICA Hotel Victoria just across the street.
