Grand Hotel Gardone Gardone Riviera

The location of the Hotel is fantastic-right on the lakeside-in very close proximity to the Ferry terminal and shops.

A wonderful location, very nice hotel and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

However if you want a more buzzing location, Gardone is not for you.

We had a wander and bought a bottle of coke and some water and went back to the hotel to sit in some shade and read and chill until it was time to go to the airport.

Overall, it was nice to get back to a quiter area, chill out by the pool, read a book or heaven help you if you get hooked by Su Doku (wish I had never bought the book at the airport on the way out)!

Guest rooms -Junior Suite are spacious and well furnished-huge comfortable bed but generally in need of some refurbishment.

We had interconnecting lakeview rooms, a junior suite and a double at bed and breakfast rates.

Additionally guest rooms -Junior Suite are spacious, the food at this restaurant is to a very high standard.

As is quite common in parts of mainland Europe the double bed is two single beds pushed together, not fastened together just pushed together.

Our room had a spectacular view overlooking the dock and lake but it was old, with and old bed, old linen, old chairs, tables and fixtures uglier than a truckstop motel.

The food in the restaurant is far better at lunch than at dinner it is better to have B&B and eat out, unfortunately there aren't that many Restaurants in and around the hotel but in Salo there are.

We ate in on the first night, then worked our way through the variety of other good restaurants near and far - the food in the restaurant was fine but we enjoy this variety.

However, although we tend not to eat in hotel restaurants, we were there for 6 nights and found a different restaurant to go each night.

The reception area recommended some fabulous local restaurants and the great hot chocolate in the bar in the square outside the hotel.

We found the restaurant staff pleasant and breakfast, whilst not having a large selection, more than adequate.

From Head Waiter Davide downwards, all staff were friendly and eager to give good service.

Dining staff provide a level of service that is wonderful and the rooms are spacious.

The reception area is one of the best I have encountered, this hotel is the perfect antidote to identical and the staff are marvelous.

Despite asking for quiet rooms we were put above the pool and jacuzzi, and unable to change as there are no single rooms in any other part of the hotel.

The swimming pool was cleaned each evening, and there are plenty of sunbeds spread across the terraces and bathing platforms.

If there were any weaknesses, it could be that the pool is now a little small given the numbers using it.

The room was spotless, in fact, everywhere was clean and there was no sign of shabbiness, even along the corridors.

The staff was wonderful, the room was massive clean and the food was of a high standard.

The room was kept clean, breakfast on the terrace was superb.

Booked with Crystal, paid for single room with lake view but first night spent in roadside room because no lake views available!
