Overall the hotel is a great value for the money, US$125.
One main reason is that Ipanema is the nicest part of Rio, and given the range of hotels in Ipanema, this is the best value on the higher end (for location, price, amenities, size of room, etc.
While this hotel is not cheap -- Rio is no bargain -- we got good value for our money at the Ipanema Plaza.
Overall the location is THE BEST and the hotel is defintiely worth the money.

The reception always seemed to have cabs to talk back to airports or where ever you wanted to go (56 reais to the airport).
We got a yellow taxi to the Hotel from the cRio Central Bus Station in Marchado for RS40.
We booked a Deluxe room on the 8th floor (room 808) which was a corner unit with a little sitting area with couch, hallway, and bedroom area with queen bed, tv, desk, table & chairs.
We had a fabulous room with an enormous bed, nice bathroom etc.
We stayed on the Ipanema floor and had a decent size room with wood floors, comfortable bed, very clean bathroom with special toiletries.
Our room had one VERY large bed made from two queen beds put together.
The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and had decent room for all my toiletries – we were in Rio for a wedding so I had the full toiletry ensemble rather than my scaled down travel set.
Bar was small and part of the ground floor asian themed restaurant which doubled as the breakfast room.
You can eat lunch or have coffee in the roof top cafe or have dinner in the ground floor Chez Pierre restaurant (same place as breakfast).
We thought the breakfast good, but room for improvement as also the bar & dining.
The breakfasts were big and offered on the roof or in the cute restaurant with a porch.
There's also a small bar and restaurant up on the roof next to the pool with balcony/windows that overlook all of Ipanema.
Note, the hotel does not seem to have a dedicated concierge but the front desk staff fills this role.
The reception staff were particularly helpful & friendly & arranged airport transfers via email prior to arrival.
Hotel staff very friendly, paid the extra 1/2 day rate and consideration I recv'd from the front desk was amazing.
The Hotel has a small gym, which will not impress dedicated gym rats but will suffice for most, whereas the pool, sauna and steam room are all finished to a high standard.
We love the gym and pool on the roof and the chic bar in the lobby.
There is also a small fitness room, sauna and dry sauna.
We had no issue but when I signed onto the PC one day the previous user had forgotten to sign off and was racking up a huge charge.
We found the staff to be helpfull and the rooms clean and tidy.
Pros" Staff were friendly and helpful (with one notable exception), rooms were clean (if not gorgeous), breakfast was very good (nice fresh fruit), location is perfect.
The hotel is a minutes walk from the beach which is clean and tidy and has great views over the small islands,We booked a deluxe room and had a corner room on the 9th floor.
The chamber maids did a great job keeping the rooms very clean.
The rooms were very clean and had tile floors, which are a Godsend in a tropical country.
