The hotel is beautiful -- wish I could have seen other guest rooms! The staff were very friendly, courteous, and helpful. The front desk clerk helped get us acquainted with the TTC and showed us how to use the day passes (which we bought right at the front desk). The cleaning staff even left us thank you notes every day for the tips we left! Also, the hotel is in a great location with a great variety of bars, restaurants, and boutiques within walking distance, and a streetcar right outside the hotel will take you to and from downtown Toronto.

The shower stall in our room was a tight squeeze for my husband (who is 6'2"), but I don't know that anything bigger would fit into the bathroom. It was only a minor inconvenience, and certainly not a dealbreaker.

Good convenient location, casual ambience, art scene and exhibits, working air conditioner, friendly staff...all good.

The window in our room...414 did not open....so nights were stuffy and airless....next time I would make sure we booked a room with a window that opens.

Friendly and very helpful staff! We ordered strange things, and they fulfilled all. My wife left cellphone in hotel room - they foud it in laundry after 3 days searching and sent us message; we wanted our stuff to be delivered to the airport - they did it free and fast. They make great breakfasts. Live music and bar downstairs. Queenstreet with hunderds of boutiques, tiny weird shops, galleries and bars around the corner. Spirit.

This is not a place for business guys with suits and ties :)

Location-cleanliness-food was above average-no room service but you can go the main resturant or bar and one of the staff will carry a pitcher of Ontario Organic beer to your room.Great rate on this site.My room was lovely .If you book online with Booked.net you get the rooms without a tub.Shower is small but fine.Very courteous staff. It's only 4 floors.Room in the back are quiet.

Room service!Highly recommend this boutique hotel.

We liked the artist designed room. The whole hotel has a lot of character and the old building was remodeled in a nice way showing a lot of its past charm. The location is excellent and the staff was very helpful. Breakfast in the restaurant was very good and healthy.

I would have liked a coffee /tea maker somewhere on the floor or in the room.

The Gladstone was what I would expect from a *boutique* hotel on Queen West. No Gideon Bibles here! I liked the compact rooms; the clean, room & shower, white bedding and wood floors made me happy... since conventional hotels are such a "turn-off" to me.

The Gladstone did have its setbacks: The wood flooring throughout (though beautiful) made for noisy coming and goings. Never have I resented 'high heels & hoopla', as I did here. Hotel staff were kind and understanding, and offered to move us to a quieter corner. (We accepted... but the heels still followed us?!) Fetching a reduced rate however, through Booked.net, made it worthwhile. Otherwise, I would have been disappointed with the hotel tab and hotel experience.

I liked the quietness of the space (earplugs in the room were cute) and the general lack of pretense.

I liked the neighborhood, lots of great stores and close to the Drake hotel.

The room was too small, we stayed on the 4th floor and the elevator is manually operated so you have to climb up 4 flights or wait until an elevator attendant comes to you. They provided ear plugs which at first I did not know why until I tried going to bed. It was so noisy at night that I could not sleep, the music from the club, the people on the street, the sirens and bus noise from outside. I thought the decor would be interesting but our room was fairly boring. Never again will I stay there.

The Gladstone Hotel focused on using local products and local foods. It was environmentally friendly. The location was in an interesting and vibrant neighborhood.

The Gladstone Hotel was unreasonably loud until 1am. Music was blaring from 9pm until 1 am on Friday and Saturday nights. We were on the third floor and it was still too loud to sleep or rest. The hotel was way too expensive for that kind of inconvenience. If it had been less expensive I would maybe understand but at around $200/night the noise was unacceptable. We were not warned of the noise and would not have stayed there if we knew. To their credit they did comp us a lunch but that doesn't make up for the two miserable unwanted late nights we spent there. A home I live above a bar and am not particularly sensitive to noise. This was completely unreasonable. The place is either a Hotel or a club. It shouldn't try to be both. I will not stay there again.

My wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The hotel is polished, yet funky and the artwork everywhere was really appealing. The staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the evening's music. The breakfast was excellent. I really appreciated the efforts the hotel is making to be environmentally conscious.

The room was a bit noisy (exhaust fans; heating system) but not excessively so.

      • Older travelers
        9.6

I loved the building itself. The hand-operated elevator, the wide halls, the art on the walls, the feeling of going back in time. I like the originality of the room's decor, and that the linens were high-quality, the pillows and bed very comfortable, the bathroom - though small - functioned well - all the fixtures were again of the best quality. I liked the 'green' approach and toiletries. Staff were all helpful and friendly.

In the bar, in the morning, the one person working there was not initially welcoming. He did get our orders quickly once he had come to the table and we told him we were in a hurry.

      • Older travelers
        7.4

Quirky. Interesting building. Very helpful staff. We came by car & there was an arrangement by which you could park in the next door supermarket for free. Very valuable in a big city. The Meldoy Bar was not the sort of place I go to volunarily but customers for this did not overspill into the more conventional hotel & cafe.

Rooms we had (2 couples) were very small. Only 4 hangers & very little storage space for a longer stay if you wanted to unpack. Some way from 'downtown' but a tram service ran from outside. Could be noisy from street & air conditioning/heating. Ear plugs were provided! Not the best area of Torornto.
