The hotel is located two blocks from the nearest bank (Banamex) where we got the best exchange rate and a block and a half from the convenience store with the best prices we found.
For guests staying at the hotel - the beach club was included, meaning you don't have tp pay extra for the sunbeds/towels etc.
Excellent area right on 5th ave and the hotel gardens are beautiful.
El Tukan is located on 5th Avenue--the best location in Playa del Carmen.
What I liked the most was the location, since the 5th Ave is the principal street for restaurants and stores and it's right close to the beach.

On our trip to the hotel from the airport on February 16th, our fellow Manitobans warned us: "be careful, El Tukan has a reputation for double-booking.
When we would travel outside walking distance, we would walk to the corner of 10 and 14 and get a taxi with a minute or two max, no matter what time of day it was.
Our suite had two bedrooms, with kitchen dining room lounge area, bathroom and kitchen complete with large balcony over looking the pool.
We then get into our extremely clean room with a nice sized shower, and cute patio,but cheap seets and a hard bed!
Some of the staff was nice and the two bedroom suite was great.

Breakfast is in an annex building and ranged from basic simple cereals to colourful local dishes, we didn't eat any other meals in the hotel - though it looked great.

The main hotel is set around a beautiful jungle garden and small swimming pool.
It's at the quiet end of the fun and exciting 5th Ave, the garden courtyard and pool area is tranquil and beautiful.
Don't pack beach towels as they are available by the pool.
The rooms are reasonably clean, sipping a nice coffee or a cocktail would be nice too and the gardens are well established.
