El San Juan Resort & Casino

I'm considering a destination wedding in Puerto Rico and went to check out the property as potential location.

The el san juan is the best location in Puerto Rico, 5 minutes from the airport but on the most beautiful beach in Puerto Rico.

1) Perfect location (Isla Verde) for a vacation - just far enough from city to be able to relax and 10 minutes by car to Condado/Old San Juan.

Our daughter left her cell phone in a taxi and the front desk team made calls to identify the cab company and were able to track down the cab with her phone and had it returned to us at the hotel.

The hotel is literally a 10 minute cab ride from the airport.

Our bed was comfortable, the tiles on the floor were nice, the furniture was very nice, the bathroom was big with modern fixtures and granite countertops, as was the large single shower and stand-alone soaking tub.

The rooms are old and worn, extremely dirty (floors, bed, bathroom, coffee maker), black stains on the curtains, and a broken balcony door that made it unsafe.

Paying top dollar for ocean front rooms and receiving run down beds, furniture, bathrooms is just not worth it.

It was then explained that the only room available to accommodate our party ‘for the evening’ was on the second floor in another part of the hotel; it was explained that the room had a queen size bed and a sleeper sofa.

After the Murphy bed, dirty towels and filthy coffee pot, loud pounding on the walls and smoke in the hallway, we were moved to room 505, a “casita” located outside near the pool.

The restaurants: There is a great selections of places to eat right in the hotel: The Palm (steakhouse), a very good Italian restaurant, Japanese hibachi place, a new Mediterranean cafe.

Also, the outside restaurant by the pool has a good breakfast buffet.

The pool area bar and outside restaurant did not have enough servers.

I can't comment on the restaurants because we ate out for all our meals.

The restaurants were outrageously expensive for absolutely average cuisine.

Horrible service (minifridge was not restocked, we were charged for valet parking we didn't use, etc), fiesty front desk clerks, and a rude manager who didn't care when I complained about these things.

The lobby is grand, the front desk staff was pleasant & quick.

The concierge desk gave us several very good recommendations for off-site restaurants, our stay at the El San Juan was better than we had hoped and the staff was so nice.

The lobby is spectacular, the pool extremely cool but those garden rooms are like my grand mothers bedroom.

We thought most of the staff was very nice (bartenders, pool staff, engineering staff, housekeeping, bellmen, valets, and many of the restaurants).

No one is there to open the door for you when leaving the lobby to walk outside by the pool.

The "wireless internet" was unbearable slow even when it worked, which wasn't often.

The rooms were clean and there was absolutely no signs of bugs in the interior.

Our room also was clean, had new carpet and a great view.

We got a room on the 3rd floor and it was modern & clean.

These are the rooms that haven't been updated yet, but they were clean, quiet, and very romantic.

The rooms are VERY clean - the hotel in general is.
