The location, for a tourist, is fantastic - under a minute from the main shopping street.

Hotel location is ideal for seeing the city, with the main shopping streets just behind, the cathedral less than 10 minutes walk (if you can stop yourself shopping en route!

In summary, although the hotel’s 60s-like architecture seemed dated, the efficient, friendly staff, comfort and nice location would attract me to a return visit.

Arriving by train is a bit of a pain since its too far to walk with luggage and too close to get a taxi - either offer the driver Euro 10 to compensate, or take the metro to Heumart (spelling?

The hotel is within walking distance to the main square and a taxi from the airport cost around 25 euros.

The room (just a standard cetegory) was large and tasteful with an extremely comfotable bed and a good bathroom.

Here are some of the things to expect at the Intercontinental in Cologne: One, your room is serviced at least twice a day (once to make the bed, once to draw the bed, and sometimes once for a quick mini-bar refill checkup).

Great bed, great views, the room has everything you need, including iPod Dock (especially good if you carry Video on your Pod).

Rooms are a good size with comfortable beds and a separate shower & bath, as well as bathrobes & slippers.

The only drawback was the lighting in the room; you can only turn off all the lights from the door, and you've got to find your way to the bed in the dark!

Food was very good, especially the buffet breakfast, but note that ALL the restaurants are closed on Sundays except for bar snacks and room service.

Breakfast in the club lounge was very good, as were drinks in Harry's Bar (together with live music from 9pm).

Breakfast was plentiful, being in an Exec room we had the choice of the main restaurant or club lounge.

If you need space, I'd book a normal club room and use the (better than average) club lounge if you want to hang out in the hotel - although I'd still recommend taking breakfast in the restaurant rather than the club lounge.

One also has to be aware that unlike most IC's the breakfast buffet in the (Faveo) restaurant is not included in the Club floor rate.

We could not fault this hotel from the concierge who parked our car to the receptionist on the executive floor reception.

Service at front desk was good and concierge was excellent however housekeeping was always late.

Another bonus was the wonderful level of service provided by all of the staff.

All the previous reviewers were right in their praise of the location, standard of service, standard of food, cleanliness, decor and friendliness of the staff.

Our room-rate included access to the ground floor Holmes Place health suite with a good sized pool, sauna, gym, & spa treatments (although an error meant that we were almost charged, check before using!

The fitness/gym/pool area downstairs (Holmes Place).

This whole facility was beautifully presented & designed, the German build quality found throughout the hotel evident in the stainless steel swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

I stayed in the executive room, which was spacious, clean and chic, and modern.

The bathrooms are luxurious and the whole place is spotless.

We had an upgrade to an executive room on the sixt floor which was a nice and clean room.

They were worth the wait, very spacious, modern with every thing you could possibly need, extremly clean, great shower, very comfy beds.

The room was clean, quiet, and very nicely furnished in a modern decor.
