  The rooms are large, overlook the lake, and have a fireplace, flat screen, siiting area and very comfortable beds. I highly recommend the Coeur d' Alene Golf & Spa Resort.

• When it comes to dining you will find the food looks as good as it tastes.

  The entire staff was very nice and we had no problems. You will have the choice of paying $15 a day for parking or using the valet service (another tip).

  In the middle of the night my son went to the bathroom and we were all awakened to a huge crash. We upgraded to a wonderful room overlooking the lake but at five times the price.

  As you'll see in other reviews, the hotel is actually two hotels -- one with four-star rooms overlooking the lake which are very high priced and then the dungeon cells. We booked a "Family Suite" for a five day stay as I was speaking at a conference at the resort. When we arrived we were directed to what looked like an old service elevator which fit two people with their suitcases. When you arrive on your floor there are no signs as to where your room is -- I really thought we were in the service section of the hotel. Finally we located our room and as I walked through the door I had that sinking feeling that we'd been screwed. I promptly called the front desk and told them the room was unacceptable as it was dark, musty, cramped, ugly and not what we had booked. I was informed that the hotel was booked and that we could move rooms the next day. I'm not exaggerating when I say the room was horrid.

  Rooms are comfortable if not lavish. Small pool is a major drawback as is the waterfront area at the hotel proper.

• Good restaurants, nice rooms. Check-in and concierge service very friendly and efficient.

  If you know that is what you are getting, and pay accordingly, it could be great -- a one star hotel (and price, if you can find a low price) with five star amenities.

  We didn't get those rooms, so I can't comment. The rooms are far far worse than a Holiday Inn or Best Western, basically matching the standards of a one-star European hotel that isn't even trying to earn its second star. But we were going because we wanted a five star hotel, and were willing to pay for it. We reserved (months in advance) a "family suite" for our family of six. When we arrived and checked in, they didn't comment on any problem, but downgraded us to a small single room. We were told that we couldn't stay in the family suite we reserved because one 'didn't happen to be available'. It took a lot of complaining to get a second room.

  We were eagerly awaiting our beautiful room (as shown on the website) but instead was put in a room apparently in the main building (not the "tower" you see in the photos) that was comparable to a Motel 6 - for $269. Also, the room had not been cleaned yet so a housekeeper was sent over to clean our bathroom while we were unpacking in the room. We had a good view of the lake but please be sure you are booking in one of the rooms in the newer tower are and not the old building where the lobby is located!

  Additionally I had paid and made arrangements in advance to have a surprise birthday cake in the room upon arrival with balloons and they set it up in the wrong room.

  On August 8th I dropped a piece of dental floss 3 feet from the entry way door, when I came back to my room that evening after my room was supposed to be cleaned it was still on the floor.

  I just spent 3 days (August 6-9th) Room 305 at your resort and I thought you might like some feedback. First room I had check into I had to change because of the smell - the second room did not smell as bad so I went to the Gift shop and bought a candle to help conceal the smell. When I took a shower all 3 days the water was inconsistent and scalded myself 3 days taking showers at all different times each day 7:00am 9:00am and 10:00 all with the same results. Fortunately I wasn't washing off my face when the water turned hot from warm. At 5:00 am on the 8th of August I was woke up by the pressure washer that was cleaning outside my room - I tried to holler at the person doing the pressure washing but he couldn't hear me it was so loud - I finally called the front desk and it stopped but I was already awake and couldn't get back to sleep because - as you might imagine I was a little cranky. When I checked out of the Hotel - I left the 2 flys 1 beetle and 1 spider that I killed in my room, but she could have cared less she was more interested in making sure I wanted to keep the charges on my credit card.

  The property's reputation and location are right on the dot. If you're going to party till the wee hours of the morning - grab a cheaper hotel room. If you want to check out the neat town and retreat to an awesome room with a great view to close your evening down - stay here!
