Clarendon Hotel

The location is fantastic with the airport bus stopping right outside the hotel and very close to the centre.

The location is wonderful, I could walk to most of the major attractions in the city as Edinburgh is a very compact city.

This hotel was in a great location, just a few minutes walk to the city.

The bus from the airport stopped right outside which was great.

On the positive side the airport bus stops outside.

OK, the room wasn't enormous, but it's only somewhere to sleep; the bed was comfy and the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean.

Bathroom was nice, main room was more than adequate with a bed, desk and wardrobe.

They said the room was homely & clean (the only slight grumble was the lack of a chair in the bedroom, my Mum suffers with a bad back & sitting on the edge of a bed was uncomfortable for her), the staff were very friendly & very helpful.

The bed was really comfortable - although amazingly - even in September the room was really warm - we had to open the windows to cool down.

The bed was comfortable, the bathroom (with shower) was immaculately clean and there were complimentary tea/coffee making facilities and hairdryer.

BREAKFAST - I know some reviews have had fairly bad things to say about the food, but we found the breakfasts to be ideal.

While you are in the city enjoy the craic at Whighams wine bar and the food at Browns restaurant in George St.

There was a restaurant, however this only served breakfast, no lunch, dinner or snacks.

I loved poached eggs for breakfast and hotels/restaurants rarely get them right.

The service at breakfast was excellent considering all the meals are cooked to order, as opposed to a buffet style breakfast where the food has been lingering on the hotplate for a while.

There are no services offered here, no room service, staff are very unhelpful and you have to call rececption in order to get attendance from a bar staff member.

I found the reception staff very abrupt and from my point of view very un-customer service focused.

The reception staff were very friendly and any requests we made, such as iron/ironing board were promptly dealt with.

And for old fogies with suitcases there is a lift!

The hotel also offered no guest parking and the closest pay lot was about 1 mile away by the castle.

We were situated on the 3rd floor, we took the lift - which was small and amazingly slow - but not uncomfortable - long enough to put your lipstick on as you were on your way out!

Free wi-fi was excellent, very strong signal and no access difficulty.

Again we found the room to be fastidiously clean and tidy; we stayed in a triple room this time, with one single and one double, so had more space than previously, but that wouldn't have mattered to me.

The room is very clean and feels newly refurbished.

The decor and fittings were basic, but the room was clean and quiet and we were able to control the temperature to our comfort.

Me and my girlfriend we're both pleased with the room - basic, but clean and newly refurbished.

This hotel is a good choice if all you require is a clean, warm, and safe room.
