I recently stayed at the City Hotel for the end of my China trip. It was a welcome luxury after staying in cheaper places. The staff, despite their limited English, were incredibly helpful. The hotel is in a great location between the French Concession and Jing'an areas, with convenient access to metro stations. The room was clean, had good air conditioning, and included a full breakfast. The surrounding area had cute boutiques, restaurants, and a rooftop bar. I felt I got my money's worth.

We stayed in a quiet non-smoking room. The rich breakfast buffet offered a good variety.

Unfortunately, the staff at the reception was not very motivated in responding to additional requests and appeared a bit disorganized.

Rooms need to be renovated. Pool was not included for superior rooms (very annoying, since this was one of the main reason for booking...) Windows badly isolated, i.e. noisy and can be cold in winter. Put us in a twin bed room, despite I was asking for double bed room at the booking.

Convenient location and easy access to major attractions in Shanghai. The breakfast was delicious, offering a mix of Chinese and Western dishes. The staff was helpful and accommodating, solving any issues promptly. The hotel had a well-equipped fitness center and spa facilities. I had a pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel.

Really found this hotel to be perfect for our needs. It was so central to everything. The staff were great, I read reviews before about unfriendliness, not the case for us, we were always greeted by happy friendly staff. The breakfast was also good, we did not get it in our package, but wished we did in the end as it would have been cheaper. We were a couple with some other friends in town for the formula one grand prix. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone. The bar and restaurant (steak house) on the 5th floor were good fun and the food was great too. The rate we got for this hotel was really great too.

The pool was closed for renovation. A pity the 15% service charge is not included in the whole overall hotel rate.

The hotel has great views from the high building, good air conditioning, and is located close to downtown and the French Concession area. It is easy to walk to different tourist places, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Staff is rude and has very poor English. Gym and pool are currently under construction, which we did not know about before arriving.

The hotel is conveniently located near the metro station which made getting around the city easy. It's situated in the best area of the city with several food shops around. The room was spacious with a great cityscape view. The bathroom was modern and clean. The staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was decent with good Chinese-style dishes and omelette cooked per order. There was a good selection of informational material at the lobby which was helpful.

The internet connection was quite expensive and the signal was not strong.
