This lavish resort is located on the top of one of the highest hills in Madeira and has indoor and outdoor pools for guests. The outdoor pools have views of the town and ocean. There's afternoon tea served in a lounge resembling a living room, and there's a grand library with books in several different languages. Location great for levada walks and to the cablecars are a must, the service in the hotel is exceptional and the facilites are very luxurious. Some of the rooms are a good walk uphill.

The staff are very professional and are helpful not intrusive, the food at the poolside bar is a little limited in choice and repetitive.

The views over the ocean are great and we were happy to use the swimming pool in March, the setting overlooking Funchal is magnificent, all the rooms are surrounded by a luxuriant garden.
