Chaucer Hotel

The location of the hotel was perfect and well situated - staff were friendly.

The price is the best bit you can't get this close to town for the price and location is great.

Ease of parking good location to discover area close to shops, the hotel is quite convenient for the City.

Location – On the wrong side of town – whilst only a few minutes walk from the city centre you approach on foot through a dark & twisty subway – the neighbourhood may be OK but there is a sense of uneasiness that is not pleasant.

You do have to cross the main road to get to the centre, but there is a safe and well lit subway that makes this painless enough.

The rooms – Oh dear – grubby, the paint work was terrible, the wallpaper stained, no TV remote, the TV itself was old, the bed small & uncomfortable- no duvets – sheet & blanket.

Cramming a double bed into a room intended for a single.

This was proven by the single bed headboard that had been bolted to the wall, the double matress looked completely out of place against it, and there was very little room to move about in the room.

They gave us a double (two twin beds) rather than a matrimonial (one big bed).

Lovely bed linen, but the room and most of the hotel were slightly tired.

The breakfast room is rather functional and could be made more welcoming, but otherwise the reception, bar etc were all inviting and comfortable.

Breakfast was average, although we didn't have anything cooked, but the staff in the restaurant were friendly and efficient.

Waiter service at breakfast was prompt and the food was of good quality.

To be fair the evening bar snack was OK – not hotel standard but by the time I ate my expectations had dropped so much I was just pleased it was eatable.

Restaurant areas were good and the hotel was nice.

In all an enjoyable stay, good service and the reception staff were very helpful in organising a room change for us.

Staff – Check in receptionist was good, the elderly bloke in bar ‘in different’ the breakfast waitress tried her best & the lady on check out did what she had to.

Hotel was clean, staff were great and the receptionist agreed this was fine.

The location was fantastic, there were good quality toiletries in the bathroom and the reception staff were very friendly.

No lift in the hotel which was a bit awkward as I had to carry my luggage up two flights of stairs.

Readers with mobility needs should also note that there did not appear to be a customer lift; other reviews seem to confirm this.

No elevator Eating at the hotel one or two days was enough for me.

Staff throughout cheerful and bathroom clean.

All the staff were helpful and the room was clean.

The bathroom was clean and the breakfast was a good start to the day.

The bathroom was the only ting i cant complain about, it was simple and clean.

Our double room was fairly small, as expected in an older building, but clean and comfortable.
