  We got those high standards with our room which was clean, fresh and modern. Clean, tidy and a great pool but dodgy service and rip off potential.

  This hotel is let down by mediocre service. Check out was slow because there were not enough staff. At breakfast the service was sullen and unattentive. While some staff in the hotel were friendly others seemed grumpy and slow.

  From the welcome from the manager on my arrival (he was visible and approachable throughout); to the extremely friendly, personable and attentive (yet unobtrusive) staff (without exception); the poolside facilities; the comfortable and immaculately clean room; and assistance of the reception staff in making onward travel arrangements, I have nothing but compliments.

  But still i enjoyed my stay because the service is so personable and you know they go out one step ahead to make you feel special. The craft shops in the hotel are actually more reasonable than buying outside. The food was pretty good in the restaurants. Pool and gym are nicely placed and a good place to sack out.

  The spa was the only thing i found lacking in taj standards, it has a long way to go and i would not recommend a massage.

• That might explain the dark quiet lobby referenced in an earlier review.

  Enjoyed drink in bar, listening to two excellent musicians playing flute and tabla who were ignored by the few other people who were there. Because we were late we didn't eat supper in the hotel but enjoyed the breakfast. Our 'superior' bedroom was large, with a spacious anteroom containing a small sofa and a small dining table and chairs. The room service club sandwich was very good. The bed was comfortable with a large flat screen TV. The anteroom was a little stark and had no pictures although it had its own TV, probably the old CRT TV from the bedroom. It's a short drive to the temples and also to the airport. The hotel has no exceptional features about it other than its location but we found it to be of exemplary standard.

  I asked for a room rate from a different branch of the Taj chain for their hotel in Khajuraho and got one number. When I rang them direct mysefl from the airport immediately before flying to Khajuraho, I got a much better rate! The hotel entrance hall is reasonable grand, and the pool looks attractive. The rooms are reasonably OK, but nothing like as good as other rooms in th Taj chain - they know thy're aiming at tour groups and have catered accordingly. There's also a bar with a large billiards table to play in the evening.

  The hotel is set off the main village road - about 15 mins walk from the main shops / temples - slightly annoying if you want to be out after about 9 pm, as all the rickshaw drivers go home by then!

  The room was beautiful and would have been perfect but for the distinct smell of mildew. The cost of the room was very reasonable, but other charges added a considerable amount to the bill: phone, internet, food.

  The lights were off in the lobby and only turned on when we arrived. But the lobby was very quiet, and there was no movement anywhere. You had to but your valubles in a locker behind the front desk.

  We inquired about how many people were staying at the hoteland they told us that there were 3 couples including us and that there were well over 100 rooms--- it gave us an eerie feeling like the movie, The Shining, with Jack Nicholason,. They told us the rooms we had were recently renovated but this was a farce. The rooms were very dated, and I think the only thing they did update was a TV and some paint.

  The rooms were clean, the showers were good. It is very convenient for the airport and the temples.
