Centara Villas Samui Koh Samui - 苏梅岛

The location of the resort is lovely - yes, it isn't near to any lively resorts, but with the free shuttle buses it dosen't need to be.

This is a lovely and quiet hotel in a good location - perfect for couples but perhaps too quiet for families.

I really do not understand some of the people moaning and complaining about the location of the hotel - in our opinion it is not only an advantage, but also it has been quite clear when we booked that it is not in the center of Samui.

Went to the Thai boxing in Chaweng which was an experience (taxi back from Chaweng to the hotel is about 400-450 Baht-not much really and there are plenty of taxis).

The hotel operates a courtesy bus into Lamai (15 mins) and Chaweng (30 mins) or you can hire a car or take a taxi).

The villas are quite big and tastefully decorated, and our room had a big sundeck with a spa tub, a nice big outdoor bed and two sun loungers and a dining table were we enjoyed our breakfast every day.

The little touches make such a difference, for instance, in the evening; they will come and turn down your room, fold down the bed, and bring you fresh towels, fruits, snacks and cocktails – and all with a big smile.

We particularly approved of the sun bed policy which discouraged reserving sun beds with towels etc with the threat that staff would remove personnel belongings if sunbeds were not used for a lengthy period of time.

The kindness of the housekeeping staff brought tears into my eyes when they set up our room and the bed with a very romantic floral set up (see the picture) which I will never forget.

Compared to the Pool Villa the Spa Villa was a little disappointing -still a lovely room and a nice big deck area, but the water that came out of the tap to fill the spa was a bit brown and murky so it was a bit like sitting in dirty bath water.

The restaurant and bar staff spoke very little English and couldn't even understand me when I asked for a fork to eat my meal.

The food in the hotel restaurant is very good – we have both tried the Western and Thai cuisine and concluded that both were very delicious.

Breakfast in the Reef restaurant (think this is the right name) was lovely - waffles, fresh and ripe fruits and bacon every day - food was always beautiful and fresh.

We usually took a 5 min walk down the hill where there are two excellent restaurants seving v good and cheap food and one friendly bar.

Do not feel obliged to give a tip as I asked the bar manager and he advised me that the staff do get the 10% service charge.

The Centara Villas Samui team was incredibly helpful, the staff was very attentive and everything from the rooms to the service was great.

Not so much the rooms or restaurant, but he service and the wonderful staff.

No good for anybody unfit as you need to hike up a fair few steps from the pool to your room and to the hotel lobby.

We booked a Spa Villa but were notified before we arrived that we would be upgraded to a Pool Villa for 3 nights because of a "water pipe problem" in our room.

Its not anywhere near the hustle and bustle of chaweng, but the hotel shuttle took us and picked us up whenwever we wanted.

The rooms were amazing, very clean - the food was really tasty.

The prices were not bad at all, the overall service was great too and the room was clean and comfortable.
