The location of the hotel is great, with extensive grounds and stunning views from the rooms. The rooms are spacious and luxurious, with comfortable beds and beautiful decor. The service provided by the hosts Angus and Jane is exceptional, they are welcoming and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Additionally, the breakfast is delicious, with a great show of local produce.
The menu options for dinner were limited, with only three choices for starters and mains.

A Perfect Easter
We recently had the pleasure of staying at a beautiful country house in a tranquil area of the UK for the Easter holidays. The hospitality provided at Cavens Country House was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we felt as though we were in our own serene haven.

This posh hotel set in acres of parkland was a paradise for my taste buds with its daily-changing menus and excellent wine list. The antique furniture added to the luxurious feel. Plus, there were plenty of activities and beautiful natural spots to explore in the area.
Shame I couldn't bring my pet elephant, they didn't allow animals.

The hosts were total legends, welcoming us with afternoon tea on the terrace. We chilled in the walled garden, spotting wildlife and soaking up the sun. Explored epic coastal paths and hit up Threave gardens. The food was epic, the wine was lit, and the vibes were unreal. Defo coming back!
Just wish there was a bit more hype for party animals like us. A cool bar or club nearby would've made our nights even more epic.

As trekkers and a group of friends, we loved the beautiful surroundings and peaceful atmosphere at Cavens. The outdoor games and equipment available, like croquet, added to our enjoyment. The friendly and helpful proprietors lent us wellingtons and towels for our dog, making our stay even more convenient. The relaxed, country house feel and the lovely view from our bedroom window made us feel right at home. The food, lovingly prepared by the hosts, was absolutely delicious. Cavens provided a perfect retreat for our group of friends.
Felt amazing, no reason to complain.

Angus and Jane were absolutely amazing hosts, making us feel right at home in their beautifully restored country house. The accommodation was incredibly comfortable and the location was breathtaking, offering a peaceful escape. The food prepared by Angus was mind-blowingly delicious, and they were able to cater to special dietary requests without any hassle. Despite the adaptations due to C-19, everything felt safe and we were incredibly well looked after. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a super memorable and relaxing break in stunning surroundings.

The building is very old and has character.
The weather wasn't good for the short time we were there, and it was very cool in the evening and early morning, but there was no heating on in the building. Although it was summer, I think the holtel owner needs to make the place welcoming to guests, which includes providing heating when it is cold. The evening meals were expensive so we dined out.

Apart from the above, the personal touch we liked prior to departure, was the owner thanking us for staying with them & hoped to see us again! Breakfast meal was also great, with complimentary fruit cake with a pot of tea on arrival. Would stay here again, assuming they would have us!!
The exterior of the building requires painting but sure this will done soon? We didn't stay for the evening meal due to a prior engagement, but the price appeared high for what was on offer?

Nice hotel and good location for seeing Dumfries and Galloway
Would have preferred an option on evening meal to have 1 or 2 courses with a reduction in cost rather than having to eat the fixed price 3 course meal.
