Editorial review:

When you stay in this hotel you know you are in Dublin. It’s been operating since 1809 and has a spectacular staircase that takes guests to the hotel’s 50 sleeping rooms. The furnishing may be a bit out of date, but they are quite functional and are definitely made up for by this property’s incredible architectural details.

it's a nice, decent, reasonably priced hotel in a safe and convenient location. The rooms are a decent size, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are excellent - good food, decent quantities, and served at a reasonable time of day. The room was smallish, but sufficient, and the bed was comfortable! There was many brochures and discounts for local attractions. It's a comfortable place to stay - not just physically, I didn't feel out of place or unwelcome at all.

Housekeeping was erratic; some days it was fine, others it was really sloppy. Similarly with breakfast - some days (particularly over the weekend, now that I think about it) where they simply couldn't handle the number of people having breakfast at the same time - I had to wait 10 minutes for a dirty table to be cleared. The biggest problem I had was the noise; unfortunately the walls seem to be quite thin so you can hear every noise your neighbours make - you can hear them talking in the passages, you can hear the tone of their voice when they're in their room; you can hear the TV as loudly as if it was in your own room; and you can hear every noise they make in the bathroom (and I don't just mean running showers and flushing toilets!)

I liked the readiness of the staff, whom i found not only carried out their responsibilities but went out of their way to accomodate and please, i found this to be the case at the reception desk in the bar and the dining area where service was quick and pleasant.

the windows in our rooms were opened while being tided and left wide open which when we returned, to our horror, resulted in our rooms over run with flies nasty and disgusting!

reasonably comfortable. Good facilities. Staff were helpful but sometimes there was a bit " tense" atmosphere. I think they should smile, relax and be a bit more friendly !! Obviously they are not trying to land a crippled aircraft with all four engines failed !!

Very noicy 24/7. How ever there may be room away from the main road which are less noicy.

Reception staff were very helpful, not only telling me where to go but looking up and printing bus time tables. Breakfast was good and served quickly. Bar entertainment (traditional Irish music) was fun. I was only there fr one night but it did the job. Temple Bar 5 min walk

It was reasonably comfortable and perfectly adequate for my stay with a comfortable bed and good shower

the bath tub/shower didn't have any grab bars and was very awkward to get in and out because of the position of the WC and tub

Reception staff very helpful, lots of knowledge and very helpful. Quickly changed the first allocated ground floor room to a second floor room. Great location for city shops bars and clubs. Clean bathroom.

Breakfast system was a bit caotic and very cooked!. However on our second morning we noticed other guests having breakfast items that were not on the menu, e.g. boiled eggs and porridge. Room and bedding was a little tired.

Facilities were very good, staff very helpful and friendly.Owner, who we met,was charming.

Cooked breakfasts could be improved upon and the evening meals, after the"early-bird" 5pm-7pm,were rather expensive. An extension of the"early-bird" period would encourage more custom as there are few smart eateries locally!
