  The breakfast was good if you dont mind a queue.

  Stains on the carpet,threadbare carpet on some of the furniture,scuffed furniture and burn marks on the patio furniture is not what i call 5 star.

  The only good thing about the hotel was the location it was very well connected to shopping and the other hotels and facilities.

  We were given a dungeon like room on a floor below the reception however after much hullabaloo we manged to get a room on the 4th floor which was slightly better. The rooms were very tired looking and full of roaches.

  We stayed in a stardard Twin room which was roomy and had superb views down the valley over the golf course. This is the second time we have stayed in the Cascades, but this time we had a room higher up on the 11th floor which has a better view than the lower room which look into the trees. The bathrooms had a bath and walk in shower with a plentiful supply of towels and toiletries.

  There was no fresh milk for the tea tray, so we had to go to one of the coffee shops and buy some milk, and if you want internet access you have to pay for it, which considering the cost of the rooms I felt was a bit mean. I also felt that with all their swiming pools, approx 7, at least one could have been heated, as it was definately hot enough to swim but the water was 18Deg.

  The Breakfest was super the surroundings was amazing and the employees was very serviceminded and helpfull.

  Had a lovely quiet room on the 11th floor. Would have liked an iron in the room and also a better selection of TV channels.

  Enjoyable stay at the Cascades was marred by the theft of our twin daughters pocket money from their bags during cleaning of room, some of my make up also disappeared from the bathroom. On a more positive note, our room was most comfortable and clean and the breakfasts were delightful. We stayed three nights whilst my husband was at a conference at the resort and i felt entirely comfortable wandering around the resort with three children using the free transport as necessary. The Water Park is great fun for the kids, make sure you take your hotel key with you to gain free access.

  Oh and make sure you get all your bags wrapped whilst travelling through Johannesburg airport, the one small vanity case i didn't get wrapped had my husbands toiletry bag containing his razor, cufflinks etc stolen.

  We booked through Getawayafrica (great service! The rooms are fine - nothing special but comfortable, roomy & clean. The concierge is great & will help you find parking close to the hotel if you ask (nicely).

  Pilanesburg reserve is right next door & v easy to arrange drives, balloon rides etc. It can get busy & getting to reception can be tough sometimes.

  From checking in every thing was great and after a long flight of eleven hours and then the car journey from Jo'Burg airport it was much appreciated. The staff handled everything in such a friendly way and when we got to our room we found we had been upgraded to a deluxe room on the 10th Floor and being at the end we had a private balcony with loungers and a table,chairs and parasol with a view overlooking the golf course,pool and gardens and the Lost City. Fruit and wine were complimentary and a good turn down service with chocolates and rose petals. We ate at most places including the Pensinula Restaurant ( where breakfast is served ) but at night is dinner is wonderful, to the snack cafe and the restaurant in the grounds by the pool. Watch out for the monkeys they are huge and yes they do climb up the the 10th floor as one landed on the balcony while my husband was siiting out early one morning giving him the fright of his life as it was the size of a small shetland pony! We went to the Entertainment centre opposite if you fancy the slot machines and visited the Valley of the Waves water park which is free if you are staying in the hotel. All in all a great stay with friendly staff and we found if you treat them with some courtesy you are rewarded with huge smiles and an excellent and interesting conversation.

  We found eating in the hotel not expensive at all compared to the UK and after doing the tour of the Lost cIty hotel I much preferred Cascades as it was less stuffy and more central to everything you might need.

  The service was very good, the breakfast selection was wonderful, and the surroundings were very nice indeed. One warning - there are locks on windows for a reason - more than one room was entered by baboons during our stay.
